| I got a bill for about 1500 for pathology. That was because my liver was diseased and they needed to do a biopsy. | |

| Thanks everyone for your responses.
mmmm......interesting. Seems like some do and some don't. The thing it is the surgeon who authorises the work to be done so they definitely know about it but just seem to forget to mention it. MInd you, it would have not deterred me from being sleeved. It is just that when you think you have paid for everything something else crops up. My $5000 surgery is so far up to about $6500 and that is with PHI.

| Yes I got that which also annoyed me as I wasn't told about it. My surgeon did explain they took a liver biopsy to check for fatty changes, but didn't mention the stomach test. | |

| Yep I got a big bill like that from pathology as well. Funny no one mentioned it before surgery. I was quite peeved that the surgeon's practice, when explaining how things work didn't tell me it was a possibility. I'm sure they know about it, since this is what they do! Sure, they mention things like no surprise fees, and from the surgeon's costs perspective they are right, it's not a fee from the surgeon but a fee from the hospital, but, they could be a bit more clear about other possible costs, and what to check with your health fund about. Most of us are surgery newbies, not well versed on the in's and out's of the surgery process. | |

| Did not get billed or even know about it. Something for me to ask of my surgeon when I next meet him to see if it is part of the 'normal' sleeving process. | |

| Hi Daydreamer - yes, I got a similar bill for this too. I gather for many surgeons it is just standard practice. | |

| Hello,
I have just received a bill for $247 after being sleeved for a Histopathology report and just wondering whether anyone else has been charged for this service.
I rang my surgeons office and they explained that when a portion of your stomach is removed they send it off for testing to make sure it is not diseased and hence the cost for the service. Here I was thinking they just chucked it in the bin. This was not mentioned to me in any of my pre appointments and I haven't seen it mentioned on this site either.
I will be definitely asking for a copy of the report to look at when I go in for my post op appointment with my surgeon .
Has anyone else had this done?
