Woodland, well done! Can't wait for my new body :-)

I had heaps of bloods, can't remember the number or tubes but a lot. An ECG and a gastroscopy. He has other tests he orders if required but I had no need.

I have to have blood tests done to check iron, B12 vitaim D zinc etc (the rest I don't understand), plus they have to work out my blood group and save some of my blood (something to do with antibodies) in case I need a blood transfusion.

I have to do Optifast for 2 weeks.

I did a sleep study when I first went to a WL specialist which showed I had mild sleep apnea most probably due to weight

Absolutely no pre op testing for me. And no optifast either. I just turned up the morning of surgery having eaten or drunk nothing after midnight and it was all on!

I had no tests done pre-op. I did a urine test when I was admitted to hospital, and then a blood test a couple of days after surgery.

Great question Janet! My surgery is at the beginning of August and the only tests that I have to do is bloods for the sleep Dr no idea how many tubes, I don't see my surgeon again until I'm on the table! does the hospital make you do any tests?

Am I the odd one out? I had two tubes if blood taken and was told I don't have to do the pre-op clinic cos I'm a fairly healthy patient. What a weird thing to say!

I've seen my surgeon only once but it was for a long appointment. Next time I see him will be on sleeve day. This time in 2 weeks I'll be recovering. Yaaaaah!

Hi JPC,

I had the bloods done (only 8 tubes for me! lol) and I had an ECG. Nothing invasive which was a relief!

Good luck :)

I had 9 tubes i think, a Barium Swallow (BLEHHH ) and i also had a Gastroscopy.
After my BT i went straight to work, i do alot of lifting in my job and ended up with a massive lump where the blood was taken from. WHoopsy.

Hi JPC,

Welcome to the forum, my pre op test consisted of Blood Test about 10 tubes so pretty much for everything, and also a barium meal and ultrasound..

Good luck with your journey and ask away if you have any further queries..

PostSubject: Pre-op tests   Pre-op tests EmptyTue 22 May 2012, 11:24 pm

Hi all,

I am seeing Dr France (Adelaide) next week and am wondering if anyone can shed some light on what types of pre-op testing he is likely to request. I have seen where some people have been for barium meals and some for endoscopies, and from what I can gather, everyone has blood tests.

Having an idea of what I may confront will assist me in formulating any questions that I may have. I know the informatin may be here somewhere but if it is I've missed it.

Cheers,

Janet
