| Day 9 of OptiFast and I am down 5.3 kilos. YAY - nice to see the weight dropping off! It is a good incentive to keep going. | |

| AngelMystique, thank you for your support. It is good to see someone here who is a similar size to me so I can watch you and get motivated by you and your losses (life gains)! I took my measurements last night and my cat tried to help - funny girl, she wanted to hold the end of the tape measure for me. I measured everything from my head, neck bust etc down to my ankles. So very excited. So nice to go through my fridge last night and empty it and also to know that I don't have to bother cooking tonight! Thank you all again for your ongoing support, advice and wisdom. You are all incredibly inspiring! | |

| hey rachel
i was in hospital for 2 days only - 4 holes and they healed really fast. no drain
no real pain just uncomfy it sortafeels like a tummy tuck on the inside.
on the opti stage - i had opt breaky and lunch - protein bar morn and afternoon tea and cups of soup or tin soup for dinner
and lots of water
good idea to take measurements as sometimes int he plateu stages u will notice the measurements change - i didnt do it and annoyed i didnt
u have positive energy so u will get there - just dont try walking that far first two weeks, u start all good but fade fast lol

| Starting my two weeks of OptiFast in the morning. Have just cleaned out my fridge and have bugger all there apart from a wee bit of lettuce, cucumber, green beans, asparagus for tomorrow night and a few beers because there is no way I am throwing them out! They will keep. About to take some measurements and a pic of myself. Here we go - the real start of the journey. Paying my gap on Thursday too - then no turning back!!!! Walking four-five times a week with 7.4km per walk. Good start | |

| Hi Rachel I walked Winston once but i think it was too soon. He is so strong I think I was a bit premature. Which is a pity. I love walking him, there is always something to laugh about. Whether its him smooching with his sweetheart, Ava the golden retriever or him trying to befriend a local cat who doesn't understand he really does like them.
I am feeling better every day though. I realised just on friday that I was bounding up and down the stairs at home all day. I have two offices at home. One upstairs and one downstairs and I was going between them all day without any worries. The body is quite amazing how it can heal itself!

Starting shakes on ANZAC day - two weeks out from my surgery date! Though, I have already started a shake for brekky just so my body doesnt go into a massive state of shock then!! :)) Claire - Do you find that the shakes keep you full enough until lunch time? I have tried them for breakfast but just don't get full so am going to use the bars in the morning and hope a shake for lunch with maybe a little salad will be enough until after work, then a bar after work then a shake and veg for dinner after my 7k walk. I know it is only two weeks - but I am worried - I guess I have got this big because I don't like being hungry. :-)

| Hi Rach, I didn't have any drains at all and found that most pains were gone after 2 weeks. I had to stay in Sydney for 2 weeks to be close to my surgeon and when i got home my daughter was quite sick so I pretty much looked after my grandaughter full time for 2 weeks. I was allowed to pick her up but just had to careful when changing her that she didn't kick me in the tummy. In hindsight this may have slightly hindered my recovery but only a little bit and we have to do what we have to do. I was allowed to go back to full on exercise at 6 weeks and I this is when I started playing tennis again and I had no pains at all then. | |

| Thank you all for your replies. It is getting close now!
I am now trying to find a fantastic antihistamine as I have hayfever and am not looking forward to sneezing with the staples / stitches.
Ozrick - Has Winston had a walk yet? How are you feeling now?

| Hi Rachel I think most Doctors would use keyhole for the sleeve. As you have stated everyone is different. My pain was rather intense in the first 10 days. It certianly got better every day and the appropriate medication made it quite bearable. I am about 2 and half weeks post surgery and pain is all gone. I am still being careful not to lift anything heavy and I am not walking the dog yet (That is Winston in the picture) but the scars seem very small and should heal up to be quite minor. | |

| Rach the sleeve is as far as I know done exactly the same way as a band is..
It's all keyhole, you'll have 5 small port incisions which only take a matter of a few weeks to heal up and turn into little red lines. Depending on the surgeon you will either have a stomach drain or a nasal drain which will stay in for anywhere from 3-7 days depending again on your surgeons preferences.
My drain was left in and I went home with it for a few days and it was removed at my 1 week post-op appointment.

Thanks Retta, I don't blame you for having four weeks off! My friend works in the same sort of role and is attacked quite often - we went to a concert last week after she had had her face scratched, nose ripped and eye bruised - the poor girl! Was it key hole surgery? I just realised that I was originally going for banding which was keyhole, but forgot to ask if the sleeve is too?

| How long did the pain last after surgery? I know everybody will be different, but would like an average. Also, how long did you all have to have off work? | |

| Hi Loretta, thank you for that. It is nice to hear from someone who was also sleeved by Patrick. Not long to go now. Still waiting on my answer re: superannuation though - grrrrr. You look fantastic! I am so nervous about the surgery and the massive change in my life, but also looking forward to seeing what life is like 6 months to a year from now and how much easier life will be when I am thinner! | |

| I am going to be in the Epworth in Box Hill. My surgeon is Patrick Moore. He seems lovely and is hopefully just as good with a knife as he is with people :-)
Claire, which hospital will you be in? When are you starting your shakes etc?
J, I definately think it helps to be a little crazy at times, helps ya live a happy life!
