| First topic message reminder :
I have started this thread based on my other post (i feel like the heaviest person here) and to only find that I wasnt.
Its nothing against persons who have weight below the 150kg or there abouts - its just I guess we see the fact you maybe 100kg and having a sleeve, when for some of us - we are like geez we would LOVE to be that weight!!! sounds silly and its not settling - for us it means lots
we can sit in chairs without fear of breaking them, or if they have arms that we dont get "wedged"
people watching us in supermarkets, yes you see them looking in our trolleys and feel like your being judged.
Having been a healthy weight 10 years ago - i know that this journey is MASSIVE..but with all the love and support here - how can we go wrong really?
let me know your thoughts
again this is nothing against persons lower weight - i just thought like weighted peeps could discuss their thoughts

| Well its day 5 out of hospital for me, now whether this is why after reading all the responses that I had tears in my eyes or not. but you all touched me. I forgot about the not being able to put the food tray down on the plane.
Also about when going to a restuarant you pick the chair that has the most room to get in and out - usually the head of the table. You dont eat as much becuase people think your a pig. Most of my family are big - so we are not ashamed when out to "enjoy" our food.
J- omg 100kg lost? how amazing are you!!
ClaireD - time will "fly" pardon the pun, before your op is here. I started my opti a few days early as I wanted to get into the right head space.
Oh yes, a bath!!! i long for a very longgggggggggg hottttttttttttt bath. My partner and I are hoping to build a house this year - I took the bath out of the 2nd bathroom- well i would never fit so why have one in the house. We are thinking of an outdoor spa instead - safe option but i guess nice too
Each little goal is something massive for us - sit in the chair that fits - or with no bat(butt wings) or gettin stuck and having someone hold the chair while u peel out of it. On public transport u stand instead of sitting - because u know u will take up 2 chairs and get looked at until some tiny tiny person can fit next to you. the list goes on really.
I know that others have done this like me, to lose weight, and others its due to medical reasons - in the long run i think its all for medical - i know i had lucky 5 years left inme. I was breaking down. But big applauds for us!!!! mmm maybe we should do a "reveal" thread ;)

| It's definitely not an easy thing at the start to get your head in the right frame of mind and have belief that you can get there..
I started at 231 just over 13 months ago now and could only dream of losing 50kg, hell if that's all it did for me then I'd of been far better off than I ever was previously right. But time ticks by and your confidence grows as the numbers start falling and you feel yourself becoming this new person with all this energy and need to get out and try new things.
It's the simple things that are the nicest to be honest, going out and not having to worry oh will I have enough room to sit down behind that person who's backing onto me. Or just even not having that fear anymore of even going out at all anymore because you don't want to be looked at like some kind of circus freak on show. It's happened to us all no doubt, I don't think that's got anything to do with being above 150 but the heavier you are the more demons you probably carry around with you.

| Well done! Great thread! *G* And lots of love and support for my 'bigger' brothers and sisters out there, 'The Tasty Weighties'I have never endured the humiliation of not being able to fit into a regular seat comfortably at the cinema, or on a plane. I have never had to worry if a chair will hold my weight or not. Nor have I had to endure the stares and comments from less than kind people as I eat in a cafeteria (well, except my loving family...) or walk into a shop to buy ANYTHING that will fit. I cannot imagine how humiliating it must feel to realise that not only YOU, but others are disgusted by how you appear. I am truly sorry for the heartbreak you guys endure, and I only wish you all the best, you amazing brave, and gorgeous human beings. One day, when you approach a 'normal' size I hope that you can put all the horrors behind you, and be as beautiful and brave on the outside as I know you all are on the inside. | |

| I remember when I posted in the thread about the reasons why you want to have this surgery... I listed the chairs with arms, the plane seats, the looks of disgust if you eat anything.. even a dry cracker in public etc! It blows me away when I realise that these thoughts weren't ever just my thoughts but belonged to almost every other 'Super Obese' (medical term 8-| ) person that was/is walking this earth I can't wait to fly again and maybe for the first time EVER not have to ask for a lap belt extension! I fit into my chunky outdoor setting chairs now without my thighs poking out the sides and actually sit comfortably in the chairs at the local RSL club which they replaced recently in their wisdom with the little chrome armed chair things.. like those ones you see in Alfresco Coffee Shops but don't ever stop for because you know your butt won't fit in them!Anyway, that's my rave and I totally understand where you're coming from with this thread! I started at 149.9kg's so yep... I get it.

| I flew at least yearly, always had to ask for an extension.... at least for the last 10 years anyway. I was embarassed about it, just asked for it matter of factly, then hid under clothes, blanket etc.
I flew again last November - no need for extension belt. I nearly cried, I was soooo happy!! Now to be able to put the food tray all the way down and be able to breathe!!!

| Hi ladies,
Well firstly a massive congrats to all of you and your amazing results - so so inspiring to read!
I am currently 141kgs but definately hear u on the chair breaking, grocery shopping and even eating in public. My biggest issue is definately travelling... i'm a travel agent and fly 4 or 5 times a year (at least) and on my last trip i had to cover myself up with the blanket and tuck the belt into the edge of my pants cos it was not even close to buckling up :( i was completely heart broken, mortified ... not to mention unsafe. I could not bring myself to ask for the extension thingy...
This is THE thing I can't wait to change... I have a list of what im looking forward to as well as a list of things i might miss but bring on the day i don't have to do yoga/pilates to get into a plane seat!!!
You are not alone... my journey has started even though my sleeve is not until May... no matter where we start from (150kgs+ or not) we have so much to look forward to!!

| Hey Angel
I'm glad you started this thread. I was at the pharmacy shortly after reading your post. I guy walked in and blonked himself into the plastic chair. It cracked groaned and came close to buckling under his weight. My first thought was for all my lovely 'sisters & brothers' that are over the 150kgs. You're right there are some differences. I know despite being 30kgs over weight that a plastic chair shouldn't break. I'm sorry if I felt threatened or upset by your post.
At the start of summer my family was at my parents house quite often. They have a pool so we often all meet over there. Three days in a row I sat in one of their poolside recliners to have them all tear under my weight. My mum is only 48kgs and my dad about 75kgs. So you can imagine their looks! Fair enough the material was due to be replaced and it was just a coincidence that it was me all 3 times- DOH! I know a little how you feel but NOT all of it.
I know with my health issues I can't afford to get any heavier. I thank god I'm having the sleeve b4 I do. I wish you all the best with your journey. I may not be able to show sympathy but I have plenty if empathy to share with you. You are so brave! Well done!

| I have only just really started getting into exercising to tone up. I did occasional games of volleyball or Zumba classes, but was never a regular thing. Now, I have noticed I have lost strength and I need to tone up a bit, so i have joined a gym. What I contribute to the steady loss was keeping to the protien first, minimal snacking line. Really helps. Also, once you start down the bad carb road, it is a very slippery slope (eg: if you sneak in some choc, you want more, and more and more.) Oh well. I still lose now if I stick to the rules. | |

| Hi angel,
You are not alone with your fears. this site is full of supportive "sista's" whom have all felt as you have. I remember writing lists of all the things I hated about being so overweight, and what I wanted to do when I lost the weight. I started my journey at 144.2kgs. I am so happy where I am atm. I look forward to following your journey.

| isis - well done on a massive loss so quick - re the exercise - how far out from being sleeved did u start your exercise and wahts your general routine. for me I am thinking in 6 weeks i will start at gym, I am back to normal foods and my body should of healed. Slow walking, bike and cross trainer for half hour and then build from there.
I can imagine travelling with the less weight and being able to walk around comfortably etc.
right now i look at any stairs more than 3 i think crap. At work we have started every hour to walk slowly down 2 flights and back up again - with a dicky knee cant go faster.
i went to bali in september - hence the photo from - and i had to have 2 of the little balinese guys push me up some stairs at the eco lodge - so embarrasing - but they were being protective - all they said was - these stairs not safe we help you. Nice but still.
fitting in those little taxis, NO clothes fit me there - so shopping was boring.. need i go on
but i want to travel soon- so lets all take this journey - and sammy yup jump on cos we are gonna be great!

| Hey again angel, Great feed, I always thought I was the only person that walks into a room and sizes up a chair with the fear of it crumbling from my weight I can't wait for that fear to be over lol I think it's the worst one, as for ppl eyeballing in the supermarket I stopped shopping. Thanku for starting the feed I know I'm glad to see it and no offence intended for the under 150kg in the end we are all here for the same reason and we all have different experiences that can help each other :) | |

| This thread is a good idea angel - don't ever feel alone, you are not! I didn't quite reach the 150 (only a matter of time though) but I was up into 140 and all those things you mention about chairs (the ones with arms were a no go), booths and plane seat belts not fitting etc... ohh man I think back and it's amazing how much my life has changed in just these every day things. Stairs, ramps, walking down the road.... everything made me out of breath 18 months ago. I lived a life of avoidance and shame.
I know what you mean about the 100 mark. That was my major goal - to hit double figures and be a size 18-20 again. I reached it 6 months post-sleeve and I felt on top of the world - soooo much energy compared to before and I went travelling around europe for 6 weeks over the period of 102-95kg. 100 seemed like a pipe dream at the start of my journey, but here I am in the upper 70s. I'm still not 'normal' weight and yes, to be honest, I do feel a bit of a pang when the BMI of 23 gets banded about as the weight we should all be able to reach post-sleeve, and by people on here sometimes too. Especially since I have had to exercise like crazy and it hasn't just fallen off rapidly, but c'est la vie. I look at my size 12 self and am just so grateful, despite the saggy skin.
Anyway, best of luck with your journey - have a look at piercedmumma08 too. She is one who was sleeved nearly 2 years ago and has lost a truly amazing amount. We try and chat a bit and keep each others spirits up.
