| I have just crossed china and hong kong borders. No dramas. I also did USA late last year. I think I still look enough like my photo. Though it will be interesting going though the auto scan thingy at sydney airport when we get home | |

| Thanks Hannah and Trishah. I stopped in and saw my travel agent yesterday who has known me for quite some years and she didn't think it necessary to get a new one. She said I still looked similar enough to not worry about it. So looks like I'm all good to go. thanks again everyone for your replies. Much appreciated. | |

| I went and got a new passport just to make certain that I would not have issues with passport control. After losing 60kg since my old passport I look some what different to what I look like now. Take Care. Christa | |

| I lost 70 kilos with my lap band and went to America on my old passport photo. I rang the australian office to find out if it was ok to do and was told that when the computer analyses your picture it checks distance between eyes etc which do not alter with weight loss.
The astonished look on customs officers and then the smile and ensuing compliments gave me a lift at every check point. we were never delayed nor questioned ever....and trust me the American customs officers are anal and gun happy!
So in short there is no need (unless its for vanity) to fork out the money and redo your passport. |

| I have a custom officer friend at Brisbane airport and he advised me to change it as we will pass through ten passport checks overseas. He said it is not worth the hassle of being delayed at the airport. Not sure how much it will cost me to change.

| Kate is depends a lot on how old your passport is. The ones issued in the last three years have a micro chip and rely on a machine doing a photo comparison. We are going away in July and have been advised to change my photo several months before we leave. Goldie Oldie | |

| Thanks Smurfette and Jaime. Jaime I reckon if you could get into the US with a passport that didn't look like you I am pretty safe to get into the Cook Islands. Coming back into Australia was the thing I was concerned about. Will deal with that when and if it happens. Thanks ladies. | |

| I was 80kg in my passport photo and flew to the US at around 134kg. I had no problems and I know I looked nothing like I did at 80kg, plus I was nearly 10 years older too lol. | |

| I do not have a pass port; though recently I had to get a new photo on my drivers licence as I have been having far too many problems when producing a photo ID; and not being recognised for what I was after. It was only after, at the nearby local airport commented that I should get a new photo; it would be a shame if at an unfamiliar airport and not being acknowledged that I may be refused boarding. I must say I do not look much like my photo anymore; I even get people walking passed me and not recognising me. | |

| I've found those new biometric face recognition gates reject my passport now but you then just get sent to the normal queue and I haven't had any problems there! | |

| Kate, I bought my passport after my surgery but I still weighed 95 kgs when the photo was taken.
I travelled to NZ last year (weight 68 kgs). Its all auomated now, and the new passports have chips in them. I went through the photo recognition thing at 2 airports with no probs.

| I have travelled overseas since loosing weight and it has not caused me any problems. Sometimes you get a comment that you look a lot different now but I have never had my entry refused.
Just got back from a cruise to New Zealand and had to produce photo ID at every port - did not have a problem

| Maybe a silly question but I'm wondering if anyone has used their passport since losing weight. My passport is only 2 years old but I look nothing like the photo in it and when I need to use it in July I will hopefully be at goal. Has anyone had any problems because you no longer look like your passport photo and what happened? | |
