| Hot chips and chocolate were two of my very favourite foods and now I can't stomach them (excuse the pun). | |

| LOL I don't have a favourite food, I love ALL FOOD!!
I don't miss it, still eat anything and everything I want too, but will pay the price if I eat too much of the wrong thing.........weight gain!!!
So the majority of the time I have to watch what I put in my mouth, I eat sensibly 6 days a week and one day each week I tend to eat what I want and enjoy a couple of glasses of wine.

| GOD...i was a after 8pm snacker alcoholic, chips, chocolate ate strictly out of boredom or ate when i was upset, emotional eater.
Now i look at the chips, go grab a small cup and place the chips in that...it would be about 10chips, eat 1-2 then " do i really need this right now?" and put them in the bin....i have to say i dont miss the maccas, kfc or HJ's......i see no point in buying these meals now, simply because its a waste of money, i cant eat the bread or that food as i get constipated, and i feel ill after having a few bites...i have had one big mac in 6 months ( counting the bites over that period of time)....if we have takeaway, its a salad, or wrap or i go to subway and grab a bowl instead of a 6inch.....i guess its making a healthier choice...even i had lunch with my gfs...they all went for the chicken snitznel with chips n gravy...i chose a grilled chicken without chips and went with a baked potatoe and a bowl of salad....something i actually enjoy...but presleeve would of ordered a steak, gravy and chips....its looking at the food in a different way now...seeing the benefits of food...
Have others noticed a change in their taste buds since having the sleeve???
For me i loved sweet foods, but now i prefer the savoury...and i can one or two squares of choc and thats it....and i used to love my carb foods...rice pasta and bread....and now i cook and make sure i dont have these foods or if i do its 75% less of what i use to have....

| I still don't MIND a bite of the odd junky food, but I don't NEED it like I used to. I also don't eat my previous favourite food anymore. I used LOVE Quarter Pounders from Maccas. I've had a little of one post-op... wasn't that interested.
Went to a cupcake store on the weekend to get some as a gift... and got one for my daughter. I had a tiny tiny bite, and was happy with that. Previously, I'd hve eaten the whole thing in a split second and would be eyeing off the gift ones and wondering if I could perhaps eat them all and find the person another gift. lol.

| beer :(
I LOVE beer, i still do. I just cant get through one now while its still cold, and warm beer is foul.
I havent cut anything completely out of my diet (because my issue was overeatting not so much what i was eatting), just adapted them because my tastes have changed and portion sizes.
Like pizza- I cant eat pizza from a pizza bar anymore (other than pizza capers, gluten free 97% fat free and low salt! awesomeness!) because its sooo heavy and greasy. But I am more than happy to make myself one on wholewheat pita with lots of lan protein and eat 1/4 of it

| I was bad with a few things:
- cookie dough, never much liked cookies but could eat a whole roll of cookie dough in a sitting. Tried it yesterday for the first time since surgery. Cut myself 1 slice about 1/2 a cm thick. From that had about 2 small torn pieces and I was done. Didn't really even like that bit.
- chips/crisps. If I sat down with a pack I could easily inhale them on my own so i never bought them. On the weekend went to the pub with a mate and he got a bag of chips. Think I had like 2 and that was it. Liked it but didn't want anymore. Still won't be buying myself any in the near future.
- steak, my ultimate weakness. Frequently would buy a huge piece of ribeye on the bone as a meal. Or would order a huge piece of steak at a restraunt and demolish virtually the whole thing unassisted, with sides of course. Went to lunch yesterday and ordered the smallest piece on the menu, 200g. Had maybe 1/4 of it and about 3 hot chips and I was satisfied.
Eating so little has made me realize just how big servings are, even entrees! I don't think I've made it through a whole entree yet. My food bill is definitely thanking me. Normally $70-80 would do me for my 5 days at home. Last week I bought $30 of food and I've had to freeze 1/2 of it because I know I won't eat it all by wed.

| My biggest thing I learnt from both dietician and psychologist were that if you are truly craving food (give yourself a distraction and if you still want it after, you are truly craving), then have it. My worst week is before my period and without fail it's ice cream. Which is weird, caus I am not a sweet eater at all (I have thrown half freddo frogs out and just the other day I took 1 bite of a creme egg that I impulse bought and threw it out). Anyway, point being is that I have mini fruit and yoghurt ice blocks in my freezer so when I am truly craving, I let myself have one. The box of 12 has been in my freezer since before Christmas and there is still a large supply...
Pre sleeve my thing was chips - salt and vinegar in particular - easily eat a large packet then go looking for something else. Lately, I have been eating vege chips but I have them with cottage cheese - for a few reasons - 1, cottage cheese fills me up quickly so I can only have about 5. 2, cottage cheese provides protein where the chips don't and 3, it tastes awesome haha. Another thing I used to eat was LARGE pieces of rump steak, the biggest I could find and I would devour it - Now, I buy an expensive cut of meat that are small so cost less than the rump ever did, cook it to perfection and enjoy every bit of it, slowly, happily and knowing that it was a GOOD CHOICE!
So I guess I have just adapted my 'things' to make them better for me. I also make sure I am getting enough exercise and eating generally healthy all the time so if I ever want something that's maybe a little 'naughty', I can without the guilt. I believe that there is no point NEVER eating the things you love - you'll drive yourself crazy... everything in moderation... :)

| Luckily for me my favorite foods are sashimi and leafy salads so I can still enjoy them as often as I like. However hot chips follow them very closely and I don’t eat them any more, though I have been know to have a sneaky one off my husband’s plate and that satisfies me – until the next time ☺

| Hi,
Still eat some of the old "baddy" favourites- but the amount/ number is minute compared to pre sleeve. I am 20 months out and try to avoid buying lots of sugary things or chips, ice-creams and so on, but have them occasionally. Pre sleeve I tried not to buy biscuits, chips etc as I knew I would eat them all. I can now buy these and not eat them all. For example I will buy a 6 pack of doughnuts and freeze them - one each in zip lock bags. Then I take one to work for a snack some days. I am lucky in that I have to snack a bit or I loose weight! Also snack on nuts, cheese etc.
Still stick to three good meals a day- keep up lots of protein, don't eat much bread ( pre sleeve I was a big bread eater) and make sure I have vegies and fruit each day. Also drink a lot. Water, some cordials, skim milk and I have limited my caffeine to 1 coke zero can a day (don't drink tea or coffee).
One thing I could eat was hot chips pre sleeve. Now maybe 3 from someone else's plate (doesn't my daughter love this!) and I'm done!

| My foods of choice was chocolate, chips and hot chips. I was a huge stress eater and at times stress consumes my life. Since being sleeved I have had 1 tiny piece of chocolate on New Years Eve and could take or leave it. I haven't eaten either potato chips or hot chips and I don't miss them one bit. The stress levels are still high in my life and I don't feel like pigging out at all like I used to. I eat 3 meals a day and sometimes have a small yoghurt or piece of fruit in the afternoon. I also have 2 lattes a day made on no fat milk. I rarely eat carbs as I see these as nutritionally having no value for me and I don't miss them at all. I wondered all the same questions and thought it impossible to not miss my favourite foods, but I truly don't miss them and I don't feel like I am missing out on anything by only being able to eat small meals. | |

| I was addicted to sugar in all forms- chocolate, cake, biscuits etc. I still WANT these foods but if I eat them I feel sick and get the shakes. This is actually a good thing because it's forcing me to overcome my addiction. I suspect that if I COULD eat them I would. My other big vice was bread which I could eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I've had maybe three slices since my operation three and a half months ago. It just takes up too much room for not a lot of nutritional return. I have to admit being a bit ho-hum about most food these days. It can seem like too much effort to cook when you can only eat a few spoonfuls. I can see how people fall into the 'cheese and crackers' trap.
Do I miss my old comfort foods? Yes. I found it quite hard going early on when I was stressed and couldn't eat what I used to but it gets easier and I'm finding other ways of coping.

| Pringles are my arch-nemesis. I still don't walk down the chip aisle, don't buy them and definitely don't eat them. I don't want to 'redevelop' a love affair with them! I know that I still like crunchy-salty taste/textures from eating other things like crackers so I just don't take the risk. | |

| Ice cream. Mountains of it.
These days, I'll have a single spoonful of sorbet. Equally satisfying.

| The few times I have tried to eat "bad" foods I really haven't enjoyed them, and couldn't eat much of them either so lucky for me it's been easy to avoid my old bad habits. I don't miss it at all, not even chocolate which was my favourite food pre-op. Now I eat very little chocolate and find I am satisfied with a small amount. Probably the only thing I have had to consciously limit is cappuccinos & coffee in general. I limit myself to 1 small skinny cappuccino per day, which I count as my morning tea or breakfast treat. Sometimes I will have another 1 or 2 cups of instant coffee during the day but I try to avoid this too. | |

| Hi all,
just wondering what your fav food was - and is it out of your life now ? - do you miss it - and do you feel your over the love of food- or was it a bordom thing not a love of bad foods?
when i think about these questions my answer is
1. fav food i guess i love cakes ect ... but my problem is comfort/bordom eating - i eat all the wrong things and i cant say its cause i LOVE the food - eg: - dont love maccas - but i eat it when i am emotional ect ..
when i was banded i didnt eat maccas ect .. as wouldnt go down i didnt miss it - but the firstthing i ate when i had the band out was a big mac !!
i LOVE sushi and sashumi - but i dont consider those bad foods
i guess i am asking although you can only eat a tiny amount of food do you still find you try and eat the wrong thing ?? or are you happy to eat well and leave the bad behind ?
