| When a canular tissues it comes out of the vein so whatever is going through it is just going into tissue in your arm. My arm swelled up quite a bit and took a couple of weeks to go back down. I haven't had a band but from what I hear and have read on this forum the sleeve in the long term is a lot easier to live with. | |

| At the start you can only sip small amounts and the majority of people find water the hardest to drink. It just hurts going down for some reason. Add some cordial/diet cordial or lemon juice to it and it is much easier to drink. I am 5 months out and I can't even remember when it started to be easier to drink more but you can eventually drink larger amounts. I still can't gulp water like I used to but I now take a bottle of water (with diet cordial in it) with me EVERYWHERE. I find fluid does fill me up but I can't speak for everyone of course. One of the golden rules is not to drink 30 minutes before you eat or for 30 minutes after you have eaten. I have stuck to this always and I can eat about 1/2 cup of food each meal, I have 3 meals a day and probably takes me 20 minutes to eat it. Sometimes when I'm not concentrating I eat too fast and that's not good. PAIN, PAIN, PAIN. You really have to learn to slow down your eating and chew every bite really well. I haven't been dehydrated but I am very careful to drink a lot of water everyday.
When I woke up from surgery I had my one and only WTF moment. I have had lots of surgeries, hysterectomy (2 ops), foot surgery (3 ops) caeserian and others and I won't lie this is the worst I have felt after surgery. I don't know why and the first 2 days were a struggle for me. Both my canulars tissued on the second day and once that was fixed I picked up so quickly and felt so much better. The pain wasn't really a huge thing more the feeling of just being hit by a bus...then a train....then a truck all at once. lol. But again, everyone is different and some people have experienced little to no pain. Maybe have a read of some diaries and see how other people felt.
You can ask as many questions as you want Kimmi, I really don't mind. The following link will help you with your tracker.

| Congratulations on getting a date Kimmi, it will be here before you know it. I have never had a band and haven't really had anything to do with them at all but it sounds like the band failed you, not you failed the band. Good on you for wanting to get fitter and healthier before your sleeve op. You can do it and you will benefit from it. Good luck with everything.
