Just thought I'd add this thread!
All scales that are used in hospitals & Dr surgeries are calibrated every 6months. This obviously ensures they ate correct to (usually) .1 kg. Home scales are usually not as accurate and are not calibrated.
If you are at all concerned drop in to your local Drs or hospital and dbl. check. Or you may need to buy new ones at least every two yrs. I say 2 yrs because as we are all quite heavy and the average home scale isn't actually meant to have over 140kg on it.
