| Hi eringirl,
Just looked at your post and i had the same thing a few months back, for me i was never one that could burp, and if i had a fizzy drink this was th eonly time i could. But since having the sleeve my "urge" to burp is more frequent but still cant burp, but i get that build up of mucus that sits at the back of the throat, and it has gotton that bad that ive vomited after a few rough coughs to bring it up.
I spoke to my dietican and she said this is a food bolus, its where the stomach is partially or fully blocked the mucus foam is forced up to the throat and it can cause pain and discomfort and of course the feeling of burping or coughing, and once this is relieved you feel better , well i did anyway ive had about 3 occasions where this has happened, i just make sure i have lots of fluid and eat slowly....i hope this helps

| hi there
im not sure if i have the same problem but will try to explain what i am starting to experience.
i am not quite 7 weeks out so my issue may still settle down. i have an issue where i alwaysa feel like i have saliva sitting just at the back of my throat and during the day it can build, it is getting to the point where i am needing to be sick to get rid of it. which i have done a few times. when ever i am sick i do not bring up food, just what seems to be thick clear mucousy stuff. once this is out i feel okay.
i didnt have this in the beginning but seem to be experiencing it now.
i am currently on nexium 40, so am not sure my issue is that, or it just maybe but i need a change of meds. i have an appt with my GP in a few weeks, so until then i am trying to just hang in there.
so sorry you have had this issue for a while Duffy, i truly hope your issues get sorted for you. i can only sympathise with you and really wish you have your matter sorted

| There is a drug that helps with the saliva - in Australia it's called mucosa mist I think. Normally you have it as a nebuliser but you can take it orally as well. Have you tried an anti histamine. As they usually dry up mucous as well. I'm back at work on wed so I'll ask the Drs. | |

| You might be having a reaction to certain foods.
I found I get what you describe after eating a potato, or a piece of baked meat.
Try going back to soup and mushy food for a while, then gradually introduce meat or tougher foods in small bites. It sounds worrying!

| Hi lis
it aint reflux. after surgery i was on nexium, then om omeprazol, then lanzoprazol and now pantroprazol. they also checked me for it in the hospital this summer.
when i get seek it is only food that comes up, not acid. it was only the first few days there were acid in when i got sick.
in august/september i was on 40 mg of pantroprazol, then i tryed in oktober to go down and tae only 20 mg daily, and then 20 mg every other day and it seems to have worked a bit, or maybe it just something else that has changed. because i dont get sick everyday now.
my own solution is to get something that stops the saliva producktion, but the dotors says they cant do that. because its the saliva after the meal that over fills the stomach.

| A lot of people are sick after a sleeve operation due to reflux Have you been given any medication to reduce the amount of acid produced? A lot of people are put on Proton-pump inhibitors to reduce the acid in the stomach. I don't know what types there are in Denmark, but here in Australia there are numerous types. Here are the ones listed on Wikipedia:-
Clinically used proton pump inhibitors: Omeprazole (brand names: Losec, Prilosec, Zegerid, ocid, Lomac, Omepral, Omez) Lansoprazole (brand names: Prevacid, Zoton, Monolitum, Inhibitol, Levant, Lupizole) Dexlansoprazole (brand name: Kapidex, Dexilant) Esomeprazole (brand names: Nexium, Esotrex) Pantoprazole (brand names: Protonix, Somac, Pantoloc, Pantozol, Zurcal, Zentro, Pan, Controloc) Rabeprazole (brand names: Zechin, Rabecid, Nzole-D, AcipHex, Pariet, Rabeloc. Dorafem: combination with domperidone[citation needed]). Revaprazan
It might be worth asking your doctor to prescribe one and see what effect it has on you. Also if you are currently taking one, it may be worth a change in brand/type to see if that makes a difference |

| Hi Kate end Jeanette
Thanks :-)
i have been checked, x-rayed, contrast etc. and it looks fine. good size, no scar tissue, the muscle to the throat open/closes fine. my blod labs looks fine to.
In Denmark we have only a few doktors who have tryed to do a sleeve, so i got my surgery in greece so i got a experienced surgeon. he also checked me a few days after the surgery because i got seek even from drinking a zip of water.
if i continue to loose weight i have too go back to greece and get checked and then have a expansion of the stomach.
dont think my body are that healthy if i loose more than a few kilos more.
but i hope that it all is turned now, and the sickness is taking slowly off.

| Hi Duffy
I agree with Janette. You poor thing, you have had a rough time by the sounds of it. Have you thought of getting a second opinion from another surgeon. Might be worth while. Hope you find out what the problem is soon.
Good luck | |

| Hi Duffy and welcome. Congratulations on getting under your goal weight. Sounds like you have been having a bit of a rough time! Sorry I can't be of any help. I have been sleeved 2 years, I have no problems at all eating and drinking. I have never been sick/vomited since I have been sleeved. Think I would be going back to my surgeon. Wishing you all the best. | |

| Hi
Im new on this site. but it looks good that there are so many sleevers inhere :-)
Im 32 years, and from Denmark.
I had my sleeve in march 2011, and have lost 30 kgs. so my bmi is now 19 and im a slim now.
I have had big problems, and still have them. just a bit less now.
i havent been able too eat much, i can eat "everything" but often i get cold, and get sp much saliva that it stands up in my throat and i get sick... so i have lost my wight pretty fast.
i have beed checked and they cant find anything wrong, and it aint dumping, gets fine the second after i gets seek. and its only the saliva that couses the sickness. it was there from day 1 after surgery and everyday since i have been seek 3-6 times a day. the last 1-2 months i have had 1-3 days i a row whitout being seek so its going forward. please write me if you had this side effect to, my surgeon havent seen it before.
besides that i have been so happy for my sleeve, still can get crasy and wish i could eat just a small kids meal (can only eat very small tastes, and is hopefully waiting for my stomach to stretch just a bit)
so im should be done loosing wheigt now, but im still loosing me slowly, but i trying to get enough calories everyday to stop it.
thats a little about me, just as if you want to now more :-)
