| Thanks for your responses. For my own piece of mind I have decided to stick with my surgeon and just pay for the surgery 30511, at least I will be near home and I feel comfortable with my surgeon. MM | |

| I attached below the description from medicare for both of the item numbers you have listed.
30518
PARTIAL GASTRECTOMY
Multiple Services Rule
(Anaes.) (Assist.)
Fee: $950.10 Benefit: 75% = $712.60 30511
(see Item 31441 for repair, revision or replacement of implanted reservoir associated with adjustable gastric band)
(see Item 14215 for adding or removing fluid via the implanted reservoir to adjust the tightness of the gastric band)
MORBID OBESITY, gastric reduction or gastroplasty for, by any method
Multiple Services Rule
(Anaes.) (Assist.)
Fee: $817.35 Benefit: 75% = $613.05
My personal opinion is - find another surgeon. The item number that your PHI will cover you for is the surgery you are requesting.

| You could try Dr Durmush from http://lifeweightloss.com.au/ in Liverpool. I was able to claim from AHM for his surgery. | |

| Dr Taylor is a very accomplished surgeon with a great record. There are also other very accomplished surgeons here in Sydney to choose from. You can go to the thread on Surgeons and just check on the others there. There may be some difference in price too. I think that it would be easy for you to find a surgeon who meets your needs no problem. I can't really understand his statement to you. Dr Taylor does require his patients to stay in Sydney for a while after surgery too which would add to the costs. Just PM me if you want any more details. hugs Tash xx | |

| Hi Tash and Foober I am very confused and cannot understand why my surgeon would make such a statement about medical fraud. I have private health cover which will cover me for 30518 sleeve with the basic out of pockets about $5K. If I stay with this surgeon who is very good no problems I will need to borrow about $18K. I am having a hard time thinking hey 30518 is covered by my health fund I am covered no questions or 30511 pay $18K and stick with this guy??? I want to change my life should borrow $18k or go to sydney and have minimal out of pockets! So does anyone recommend DR Craig Taylor? I wonder if I will need to jump thru the hoops again, seminar/dietitian etc as I am out West in the country. Thanks again | |

| Yes MM and Foober! It is not fraud. The numbers for the Gastric Sleeve ARE 30518. Dr Craig Taylor in Sydney uses this number and I would suspect that most surgeons use it too. Just a note that if you are self funded throught Dr Taylor you cannot claim the rebate for the actual surgery as Dr Taylor claims it for his costs from his side and therefore gives the lowest surgery price of which you cannot claim on - he does not provide a receipt with the item number on it when you are self funded. I think I was told this but failed to register that this was the case so I only got $250 back in total which was for something else. Best of Luck Tash xx | |

| I have to say that is really odd. I wanted to check that my PHI would cover me the medicare numbers quoted by surgeon were 30518 and 30473 . I was totally covered I thought the 30511 was for gastric banding | |

| Hi There Are there any people who where sleeved in Sydney and their surgeon used the 30518 item number? If so could you let me know as I am considering changing surgeons if it means not having to get a personal loan to pay for my sleeve. My health fund will cover me for 30518 not 30511 and my current surgeon states he is not will to commit medical fraud by using the 30518 number???? Any other advise appreciated. Thanks MM | |
