| Movicol is a gentle laxative that helps your bowel to absorb more water. It doesn't make your bowel contract like some other laxatives which you don't want to do with a new sleeved tummy. Movicol is usually recommended by hospitals for post op patients for this reason. It worked for me and I had problems going post op too.

| Thanks so much Tash. Will do. What does the Movical do? Is that a laxative too?

| Beccyboo. Take some benefibre in water every day and also buy some sachets of Movicol from the chemist. They also disolve in water. Have one a day till you get a result. If nothing happens soon contact your surgeon or GP for some advice. Make sure you are drinking lots too. Good Luck Tash xxx | |

| Well pocket rocket my surgeon had us on fluids for 3 days and now purees for a few weeks then soft foods will come after that. Last night I shocked myself as I made pumpkin soup and added a teaspoon of LSA and 22g of pea protein powder to it. I ate about 500ml! Did not hurt t all plus I managed to have about a litre of water, 300ml coffee, 250ml vege juice, optifast, jelly and yoghurt and pureed chickpeas throughout the day! I think that is a bit much do you? My tummy must be healing so quickly. I also walked around the shops for 2.5 hours so thought I may get the much awaited first movement at the station but to no avail unfortunately :(

| Subject: Wow 5 days on the mushies already - I was on two weeks of opti after the opp! Mon 04 Jul 2011, 2:04 pm | |
| Hello beccyboo78
You are doing well to be on the mushies after 5 days! I was on the opti for the first two weeks after the operation.
I wouldn't worry too much about the protein just yet, as I found it difficult to get the amount of water I needed to drink to stay hydrated and that is what made me feel weak during the first few weeks.
Once you get going, I would also recommend a good whey protein powder. I use one daily and have had fantastic results and it gives me about 30g of quality protein a day in a small smoothie which taste's lovely!
Congratulations on the sleeve and looking forward to hearing your positive stories on the losers bench!

| I was consuming 60-70g protein per day from day 3. If you are struggling, purchase some WPI protein powder to add to your fluids :) | |

| 60 grams by week 5. The dietican specifically said to focus on getting fluid in for the first 4-5 weeks & not to worry about protein until later. Having said that, i stuck with as much Optifast as I could drink (2 a day) for the first few weeks, and added protein powder to thick soups at week 5. My surgeon had us on liquids for that long! | |

| Hi Beccyboo78. Good to hear you are going well. My dietician recomended 60 gms protein for women and 85gms for men. It can vary slightly depending on your dietician but this is generally around what most recommend. | |
