Is Optifast really necessary on Liquid Stage??? Empty
PostSubject: Re: Is Optifast really necessary on Liquid Stage???   Is Optifast really necessary on Liquid Stage??? EmptyTue 07 Jun 2011, 8:38 am

My "D" gave me a pamphlet of sorts, but it is just 4 serves of Optifast a day (with the ml's going up each day) and water. The extra is the sipping yoghurt for me. Nothing about pureed fruit or cottage cheese. She did give me a more detailed pamphlet for the pureed phase, so I'm really looking forward to that.

I'm going to go and make myself an Opti soup. I don't actually mind Optifast, but I'm just not hungry for it. BUT, I've read all of your posts and I will make a bigger effort, I seriously don't want to get sick or stuff this up.

Thanks guys - I LOVE THIS FORUM Is Optifast really necessary on Liquid Stage??? 362526

Hi there, didn't you get a sample daily menu from your dietician? I was sleeved on 2nd June and have the Dieticians notes by me constantly as I can't afford to get sick so close to exams and work commitments which are waiting for me when I get back in 2 weeks.

You should be aiming for about 60g protein per day (from a variety of sources). Drinking yoghurt doesn't have enough nutrients to keep you going sweetie.

This is a typical day for me:

Reflux tablet (Fabulous invention)
Supradryn Energy Vitamin (dissolved in 300 ml of water and sipped during the day)
Morning - milky coffee - 8g protein (200 ml)
Breakfast - 1/2 cup cottage cheese 14g Protein or 1/2 cup yoghurt with 2 tbsp pureed fruit
Snack - 100 ml organic apple juice
Lunch - Optifast Soup (about half a cup) - 10g Protein
Snack - Musashi P30 shake - about half of one - 15g Protein
Dinner - 1/2 cup low fat custard with 2 tbs pureed fruit or half cup cottage cheese.
I am also taking soluable panadol rapid 3 x per day in 100ml of water.
I have an icy pole most evenings just to get rid of the horrible taste in my mouth.

In most cases, I can't get more than 150ml in my tummy at a time.

This is based on the sample menus my dietician gave me. It is hard to get it all in, but you must refer to the notes your dietician gave you so you can look after yourself properly.

Unfortunately I have been gagging on the vanilla/chocolate/coffee Protein shakes and Sustagen which I liked before I was sleeved, so have added the cottage cheese in as an optional extra - I can't find any unflavoured protein powders close by to where I live.

Honey, you will get sick if you don't add more protein and nutrition to your diet.

Please PM me if you want to chat further.

Love LoubyLou
xx

My surgeon and dietician recommended opti for the two weeks after surgery. I had 1 serve a day, in two or more parts as I couldn't drink all at once. The nutrients etc do help with recovery as well as maintaining the low calorie for maximum weightloss.
Good luck with what you decide.

I did shakes post op but switched to Kate Morgan.
They are nicer and have more flavours, and about the same amount of protein as opti.

Yes do the opti! I know that the nutrients and protein in the opti are really necessary to aid the healing process - without sufficient fuel your body can't recover properly from surgery. That and you will get weak without enough protein for your muscles to keep healthy.

Opti is gross, but its not forever :)

Good luck on your journey

Hi, my Dietician has told me that if I don't have the Optifast during the liquid phase then I run a risk of my sleeve tearing because I'm not getting protein into my body. Is this true? What do other Dieticians suggest for the Liquid phase?

To be perfectly honest, I'm happy with just water and drinking yoghurt. I have no desire to eat at all.
