Be very careful about paying for the op before APRA gives you the money. Usually means APRA wont release your money cos in their eyes you are not desperate for the money.

I think you can still access your super if it's already been paid for, but this is something I'll discuss with APRA closer to the time if it's looking like I won't get the money before my surgery. I think I allowed 9 weeks from the time I put the form in to the operation date, but I have to pay the surgeon a fortnight before then and the anaesthetist a few days ahead. I feel like even leaving that amount of time is cutting it close.

I rang APRA today to make sure they'd received my application but I forgot about daylight savings and they were closed. Guess I'll try again tomorrow.

At least I know if APRA stuffs around and takes too long to give me an answer then Mum and Dad can pay it up front. Then when APRA approves it I could pay them back. I hope it doesn't come to that but it's good to know I've got the option.

My mum rang me today to find out how I went in a job interview I had this afternoon (I think I did ok) and after a bit of general chatter she asked me how I was going to pay for my sleeve. I said I had applied to have my super released and that I was waiting to hear back from APRA and that I should know in a couple of weeks. She said that her and Dad had been talking about it and they would like to lend me the money for the op and I can just pay it back when I'm ready. She said that Dad really wouldn't be keen on me using my super to pay for it.

I thanked her for the offer and said I would think about it, but would wait until an answer back from APRA.

But how nice is it that they offered?! I'm so chuffed! It means a lot to me that my folks are so on board with this.
