| Thank you for your replies. I would get another opinion but I do feel a bit of a loyalty to my surgeon as I used to be his scrub nurse!! I am actually seeing him next week for a consultation so I will have a robust conversation with him and see what if anything he can do for me. I will mention getting a 2nd opinion, that well may do the trick | |

| Hello, I agree get another opinion, there are plenty of surgeons to choose from. Be as informed about the process as you can, and as much as you want to be. Good luck | |

| Hi Mandi Maybe you could look at trying out another surgeon. I think it would be a good idea and it usually is to get a 2nd opinion. If your still unsure get a third opinion. By then you will have armed yourself with as much knowledge as you possible can and you will know what your talking about. There is a surgeons list on here as well. Check them out to see who is in your area. Good luck with your decisions I know I chose the sleeve because it was so much less ongoing maintenance than a lapband and the removal of grehlin also helped in my decision. I have lost in 7 weeks from the start of opti till my 5 wks sleeve anniversary yesterday 14kilos. Can you believe that??? I cant!! Started out at 102.7 am now 88.7 and all ive done so far was biking on opti as I have/had a critical tear in my knee and now Im walking again. up to 5 -6 ks a day. I think its incredible and I reckon so worth everything you go through. Best of luck in your decisions Juls | |

| Hi all, I'm new to this site and so far have found all the information extremely helpful. I had a lap band Jan 09 my starting weight was 98.6kg. I intially lost weight but had so many problems with it, it was too tight too loose, it slipped so had to have it repositioned June 2010. My weight now is 88.2kg, the last 4 kgs lost has been through sheer determination and seeing a personal trainer 3 times a week. My surgeon was against sleeves when I had it repositioned but since has had a change of heart after doing research. He has also said that going from a band to a sleeve doesn't work that well. I have had enough of the band, I still find it painful to eat, sometimes I still need to pb and find certain foods too difficult to eat, usually the foods that are healthy and good for you, funny I never have a problem with chocolate or chips!! So I am seriously considering having a sleeve. Any advice greatly received. Thank you | |

| I'm also an ex-band patient. At least you've lost 35kg with the band - I lost nothing over a year (gained a bit, lost a bit, gained a bit, etc)! Since having the sleeve I've already lost quite a bit. Unlike the band, the sleeve actually gives you a feeling of being satisfied with only a small amount of food. When I had the band, my stomach would gurgle non-stop as I was always hungry. The ghrelin produced by the stomach (the 'hunger hormone') is greatly reduced when the stomach is cut away in the sleeve op. This also helps make you feel fuller for longer. Do your research and speak with your surgeon. Remember that they won't operate on you for at least 3 months following removal of the band (due to scar tissue and allowing the stomach to reshape). Although you might regain some weight in this time - don't worry too much as you'll soon lose it after sleeve surgery. All the best, Aquarius | |

| Hi Solarberry Your not a failure at all. I had 2 lap bands. The first one took 2 years for the doctors to find the problem. I went from 110kg to 59kg then back up to 100kg. The second band never worked from day one. I lost nothing. At my scan It showed the band was unhooked and food going through like normal so I could eat anything. I was never offered the sleeve the first time it fail that's what Im unhappy about as I would have saved me alot of money and driving through the night to perth when I had problems - nice 4 1/2 hour trip. So if it was me I would pick myself up ring the doctor and request a scan. I got the staff to get the scan for me then have it done and then go to the doctor saves a consult and remember nobody knows your body like you so take charge and get to the bottom of the issues so you can rest easy. Best of luck | |

| Welcome Jacqui, Congratulations on losing so much weight with the band so far! Well done! I had the band for six months, it sucked and I hated it - long story, read my diary if you want to get the low down. The sleeve was done on me almost 10 months ago and it is fantastic!!!! I don't get hungry usually, I just eat by the clock and if I do get hungry a small amount sorts me right out. I am only a few kilos from my goal weight and I can honestly say the sleeve has been great for me. I would reccomend it to anybody as a truly fantastic weight loss tool. Good luck, xxxHuggyBear | |

| Hello All :)
Well, im Jacqui, im 30 and I have a lap band. Currently, I believe I have failed with lap band so I started to look at the gastric sleeve.
In the 2 and a half years I have had the lap band, I have lost 35kgs. I havent lost any for a good 8 months. Either my restriction is too much or not enough.
I am over it. Im depressed. I feel like a failure. Im angry that I didnt even consider the sleeve. So here I am to research it and see if its even a possibility for me.
No matter, what, I always feel hungry. Even when I had restriction, 30 mins later I was hungry again! I cant win!!!
Any advice would be fantastic.
Thanks :) | |
