Hi Maz
Thanks for the update, and it sounds as though you're doing really well.
There's a thread specifically for bowel movements, and on it we talk about how some of us get constipated, but others get diahorrea. I'm sorry it was so bad for you - I'd make sure I had some "stoppers" on me for the time being, if I were you!
Best wishes
Chris

Hiya

I'm feeling fantastic today as had my staples out!! I was expectin them to hurt like mad when being taken out bot only three of them hurt a little bit with one being a stubborn little critter and wanted to stay in my stomach - but out it came anyway!!

Went into Cardiff to windowshop but got tired VERY easily so letf after about an hour.

Had another new experience today though - I pooped myself!! Why didnt any one tell me about that one?? Thank goodness I was in the house! I was on the toilet [dunny for you antipodians - hope I spelt that correctly] for about 20 minutes with very bad griping pains and I think I lost the contents of my stomach which was mainly liquid. Obvious really cos I've only put liquid in. I was very shaky afterwards but settled down quite soon afterwards.

I'm back in work on Monday but not expecting to last the whole day - luckily I can work from home if necessary.

Ceri [Cerijenks] is having hers done on Monday and we are talking constantly and cant wait to go through this together. Hopefully, when she's better we can take a trip down the M4 to see you!!

Just watching X Factor and 'Strictly' ans contemplating taking salsa lessons when smaller. My-o-my, my 'to do' list when I'm smaller is endless..

Have just weighed on my scales at home and since I started the pre-op diet have lost 21lbs [11lbs since op - 10 days ago] WOW

Speak soon

Maz xx

Hi Elle.... Just read through your intro.. gosh you have had a lot of problems in the past.. i hope this surgery really helps you.. know what its like feeling like you live in a hospital... i was burnt when 5 years all right side of my body and third degree burns 6 months in hospital... heaps of knee shoulder and ankle ops also got golden staff that started eating my leg and was allerfic to the pills they used to treat it (5 months) so im a walking chemist aswell and have been dealing with chronic pain for the last 5 years due to nerve damage down my right arm..... so i know when you say about it been less evasive to have the sleeve done thats why i choose to have it because it was safer for me also and the dr recommended it... Ive got irritable bowel and pcos the only things that affect me are 99% fat free items so i cant eat lite food and also a lot of fats and butter.. with the pcos im on the pill dianne and that seems to help with the cysts and the cramping cant do nothing about except buscopan.... anyway i wish you luck and hope maybe to see you at one if the outings...

I'm sorry to hear what a trial life has been for you already while you are still so young.

But there are plenty of us here from the Perth area, so you have come to the right place if you need some support with this surgery.

Welcome.

Peter.

Hi elle

I'm being sleeved in November and also have ceoliac dissease but i am casien intolerant rather than lactose which means no form of dairy for me :(

Be sure to speak to your dietion about what your options are for the preop diet. There are a few product out there that are gluten free such as sustagen hospital formula and Leisa's secret http://www.leisassecret.com/. The leisa's secret can be mixed with the lactose free skim milk and is quiet nice. I gave it a go hoping that it would be ok as optifast put me in hospital overnight on a drip with sevear dehydration Like chris gluten gives me really bad diahorrea but i also get bloating, headaches and feel really depressed when i eat it [my dr and i disagree on this one - he believes it isnt possible for wheat to make u depressed but no more antidepressants for me!!]

So lucky me gets to do the 100% no carb diet b4 my surgery which wont be too hard as i dont eat many carbs in the first place :)

Best of luck with your surgery :)

Hi Elle and welcome
No, not boring at all. I can't imagine someone so young having gone through everything that you have. But of course that means that this sleeve will be a breeze for you! LOL
December's not so far away, so it won't be long before you're done.
Like BB, I'm only slightly lactose intolerant - but for me, it does the opposite - diahorrea if I have too much - funny about that, isn't it? LOL
There are a few others on the forum who have PCOS, so I'm sure someone will be able to help you in that regard.
I look forward to hearing more from you.
Chris

Hello Elle and welcome to the forum. I wasn't bored by your intro just astonished at how much you have had to endure and how amazingly brave you are. I am sure taht having the op will help you a lot. I am slightly intolerant to lactose and wheat, but all it does to me is constipate me! I have to say that I had a lot of milk at the beginning after having the sleeve! I am sure there will plenty of people to help you on here!

PostSubject: Newbie from Perth -WA   Newbie from Perth -WA EmptySun 05 Oct 2008, 5:56 pm

Hey guys,
Just thought i'd introduce myself - sooo glad i stumbled into this site!
Ive just had my date for surgery booked this week - 3rd Dec.
I'd love it sooner....as im soo excited.. ( and very nervous!).. but it has to fit in around uni.. just incase something drops off...and i have to spent an extra 3months in hospital lol - im not the luckiest person when it comes to hospital visits!!..
humm.. so i guess id better introduce myself.. i hate talking about myself. lol... this could be a long one..lol
Im Elle.. 20 year old uni. student- just moved back to Australia - after growing up in the UK ( for 17yrs lol)
Ive stuggled with my weight since i was about 13ish... but not really overly bad.
I was born with a lot of orthopedic problems - mainly parts of my ..left.. hip hadnt developed properly.. causing my hip socket to shatter...and my femer head to smash thru my body and get stuck in the bottom of my heart when i started to move around more... it wasnt picked up until i was 8months old...and by then it had turned into bone cancer.. so i pretty much spent the next few years in and out of hospital..lol.. in more than out..lol. tons of opperations to reconstruct my hips and leg..about 18months in a full body cast..and calapers.. and other metal contraptions.. and chemo etc. And then everything was fine until I moved to england..and I was about 5/6 i started complaning of pains in my other leg.. mainly my kneee...and all of the drs. my parents took me to said i was attention seeking/lying.. lol their professional oppinion! When i was about 7 i had to tag along to a physio ap. with my dad - after he'd broken his leg - and she said about my walking funily on one of my feet.. from there i got refered to a new ortho. surgeon - who foundout my entire right hip had started to disitigrated.. they put off surgery for as long as possible - so they wouldnt interfer with my growth - but by the time i was 14 i had hardly any hip left and had to start using a wheel chair - so i had pionering surgery to reconstruct my hip - a triple pelvic ostietimy - so far im the only person that we know of to have had a triple one.... only puppys so far! lol and i had my knees reconstructed twice and surg. to fix my shinns and anckles...

..which i guess initially started my weight gain - because i was stuck in a wheel chair and using crutches for a loong time - and was unable to do any exercise.. also during my big hip op. i got an MRSA infection - which made me really reeaallly ill - and my new metabolic dr. recons it came back when i moved back to aust. and made me ill again - pretty much killing off my thyroid - and making my metabolism crash - so since ive been back here... ive gained about 20kgs- over about 3months.. and then slowly another 5ish over 11 months... which has been pretty shocking!!

the huge weight gain has also hugly effected my legs - seen as ive always had to keep my weight as low as possible not to cause them any extra pressure - so its a huge catch 22 - because im in more pain and unable to do any exercise without causing more damage - which is my main reason for having the surgery.. because no matter what i do - i cant shift any of this weight - and my legs arnt going to improve much... i guess only get worse as i get old! lol - so having something thats long term/ irreversable.. is more of a bonus then an issue - if that makes sense. - which too is why iam choosing the sleeve over the banding - also being less. maintenence.. and my dr. says its usually more effective - and less chance of me getting another infection! lol - as i already have a heaps of metal bits n bobs in my hips lol - they dont want me to have anymore 'foreign bodys' ..e.i the band lol
I also have PCOS - which doesnt help either! lol

I also have ceoliac dissease..and am loctose intolerant lol .. im a bit of a walking medical journal..lol.. they recon from having chemo. so early in life it effected alot of my development.. But i guess its good.. cos i means i have to live of rabbit food! - so i knew when i suddenly gained so much weight...there was something bigger wrong - its just annoying when drs. dont understand and just tell you to go on a diet!! lol... but im lucky enough now to have found some really amazing specialists here.

but it would be really interesting to see if anyone else has ceoliac/ or is Lac. intolerant - and how they got on with the surgery... and if theres anyone else waiting for their surgery too :)

Ugh! sorry ive written so much!!... hope your still awake...if you didnt leave already after the first 3 lines...lol
Thanks,
Elle :)
