My husbadn is a supply manager for a large private hopsialt in sydney, and he said you can add a few zeros onto the price for medical equipment, so the hospital is passing on the costs that the suppliers charge. I also used to work in a private hsoptial in administration and the prothestis always costs a huge amount, for example an unisured Pt will pay $20,000 for a hip replacement!!
Thank god for private health insurance.
By the way, private hospitals don't make that much profit, compared to Maccas or the banks or even Qantas, it's just the outgoigns are very expensive.
