Well to be fair, it's in their interest as they (we) are the ones who will support the elderly who have no super left if they spend it all now.

It's definitely more painful than it should be though.. bureaucracy!

I am with MBF as well. My application just got knocked back by APRA with a stat dec outstanding, proof of monthly income of household, expenses, costs of medicals, letter of GP, letter of surgeon did not include traveling. I did not apply for enough to cover the tax still to be deducted... ughhhh

I have a list of 18 points to get documents, letters and proof and email it to them. This whilst my operation is in less than 2 weeks. I am stressed to the limit.

I have paid the out of pocket amount with money borrowed from a friend who gave me the cash and I deposited it in my bank account. Now the friend will give me a stat dec but not proof of where the funds was withdrawn ... also hesitant because if the stat dec indicates cash involved there might be a comeback to the friend whom, in good faith, gave me the money, with the understanding that I get it from my super and pay it back (in cash) BEFORE my operation.. which is not going to happen... horrible

The joke is.. I am not working at the moment, but I have dumped more than ample money into my super and always had extra money deducted (monthly) to build up a good super... now battling to get my own money back...

Hi i am with medibank, and they don't cover anything more than $250. The question you need to ask for is the Item number/s from surgeon. From there medicare can tell you how much the schedule fee is for those item numbers, best way to work it out is medicare cover 75% of scheduled fee and health fund cover 25%. So in my case the surgury was close to $5000. Schedule fee was something like $900 then it was split 75% - 25% between the two. Good luck
