A big thumbs up for Dr Lockie Empty
PostSubject: Re: A big thumbs up for Dr Lockie   A big thumbs up for Dr Lockie EmptyTue 30 Sep 2014, 12:08 am

Hi DCW,

For the surgery I had to pay about $5000 and this included Dr Lockie, Aneasthetist fee (alot! and he didn't do the medicare special fee thing) and post op consults with Dr Lockie and his team. I didn't have to pay any fees for the hospital itself as I also have top cover.
I also received a number of bills for pathology which was annoying. Total was approx. $600 after the surgery which I had to pay upfront for but I got most of it back between medicare and then my health fund.

Hope this helps. This is the best thing I have done for myself. I am very happy to have come this far, I have lost 25kg in just over 3 months.

I'm just wondering if any of you were charged a gap? I'm with Top Hospital Defence Health so I'm wondering about the gap before I do a consultation.

Hi Alex,
Congratulations on choosing Dr Phil Lockie and team...you wont be sorry.
I havnt posted on this forum since just after my surgery which was 7th feb 2013 but I thought I should jump back in here. From the minute I met with Dr Lockie and his team I knew he was my choice. Fantastic dietitian and psychologist, really lovely people and a definate must have as part of your weight loss journey. Shirley is a lovely and caring person who will do everything possible to make sure you are well informed and ready for the surgery. Lets not forget Dr Lockie who I think is a funny guy with a real laid back approach, easy to talk to and a great surgeon.

My actual surgery date was resheduled by Shirley to another date at another hospital because of my other medical conditions. I was a high risk patient so I needed to be close to a major public hospital if things went a little pear shaped.  I was abit upset about the date change but I then realised it was best for my health and that was their main concern.

The team is always available to you by phone or email, which for me was great because I live about 3 hours from Brisbane. I actually received a call from Michelle V about 3 weeks ago letting me know I still 2 appointments left with her. How great is that cause I certainly didnt know. I was able to complete the consults over the phone, very convenient.

Having said all that I am thrilled to say I have lost about 53 kgs since beginning this wonderful journey and now weigh 69kgs. Happy????? I'm ecstatic. I cannot believe how amazing I feel.

Thanks to team Lockie for taking me on and giving me the tools to a better life. I really hope you are as happy with them I am. Also,  this forum is a great support network.

Best wishes to you, when is your surgery?

Hi,

I just wanted to restart this topic as I am booked in with Doctor Lockie and his team.
Any feedback recent or otherwise (i.e...long term Dr Lockie Sleevers) would be amazing!

So far all positive which is comforting :)

Thanks!

Hi!
I was sleeved by dr Lockie in June 2012, I have since lost almost 60kg and had a very healthy happy baby boy.
Lockie and his team are fantastic and I couldn't recommend a better surgeon and team orientated set up.

Hi Mslahdeedah,
I was also considering Dr Hazifotis...But never actually made an appointment with him (though I did ring his rooms) as my GP said Dr Lockie is absolutely the best at this procedure. And seen as its your body and considered a major Operation, just go to the best.
I absolutely made the best choice for me. I have had no issues at all.
I hope the same for you....if I can be any further help, pls ask :)
Cheers, Simone

Hi Mslahdeedah,
I was sleeved by Dr Lockie on 9th October this year. I am 6 weeks post op and currently in Vanuatu on holiday (as my treat).
He is a wonderful surgeon, I had no complications, I bounced back from surgery very quickly. I had very little pain and was off pain Meds the day after getting home from hospital. My scars are very small, very neat and very smooth.
I cannot speak highly enough of him and Shirley and their team. I found the Psyche and Dietician part of their treatment invaluable (even though I thought at the beginning it would be of little value to me).
At the end of the day this was my body and I wanted to find the best surgeon. I believe I found that in Dr Lockie and his team.
I am back in
Brisbane late Sunday night, so I am only checking my emails on occasion while away, but if you have nay further queries I will answer them as promptly as possible.
Warm Regards,
Simone
Thank you for the reply Sim :) I am really considering Dr Lockie, I had originally been leaning towards Dr Hatzifotis but something keeps leaning me back towards Dr Lockie :)

It's one week today. I still stand by saying that Dr Lockie and his support staff are all wonderful. The dietitian and Psychologist being in his offices (they all share the one set of Professional offices) is very convenient. I was looking for a Psychologist who specialised in Bariatrics and it was a relief when they introduced me to Michelle V as that's exactly her area of expertise.

A big thumbs up for Dr Lockie Empty
PostSubject: Re: A big thumbs up for Dr Lockie   A big thumbs up for Dr Lockie EmptyThu 11 Aug 2011, 5:43 am

Hi. I'm brand new to this site, so sorry up front if I mess up. I'm due to see Dr Lockie and his wife on the 23rd August.

The idea of this surgery was only brought up with me recently by my GP. I'm an insulin dependant Type 2 diabetic with Lupus, Fibromyalgia and Bipolar. I am on high dose steroids for the Lupus (the lupus affected my blood vessels behind my eyes and caused retinal ischemia, rendering me legally blind, overnight, 8 weeks ago). the prednisone has a)caused more body pain, b)made my diabetes incredibly unstable and c) made me put on in 5 months the 20kgs I lost last year.

SO he thinks this is the best option for me, in that it will at the very least, cure my diabetes and take a lot of pressure off my joints (my hips and pelvis are permanantly damaged and I'm currently housebound).

I'm so nervous. My GP told me Dr Lockie has a payment plan, but I didn't get that impression when I spoke to the receptionist (who was lovely. Stella?). We don't have private health insurance or access to superannuation (I have been a SAHM and carer to my own mother for more than a decade so I have no super).

So I don't know what this would cost. My father has offered to assist, but I'm terrified of finding out the bottom line.

It is lovely to know though, that so many of you have had good experiences with Dr Lockie and his team. I'm so scared. This seems so incredibly drastic.

Hi Everyone,

Thought I would introduce myself. I was sleeved by Dr Lockie on the 14th of April and so far so good but I am only a month out from surgery. Does anyone attend that support group? Is it any good?

What I like about his surgery is all the support they offer you, I feel like I am in good hands.

Am off to see Dr Lockie on Tuesday and now I am starting to feel quite terrified that he will say no sorry cant do the surgery for you. I have a tendency to look at the negative. Teribble negative thoughts. However, my dear hubby is coming with me to the appointment and he has been more than supportive with my decision to see a surgeon for WLS, he has seen me struggle with my weight and knows how unhappy I currently am, which is so not the person that I want to be and as a mother to 3 gorgeous young boys I want to be a fit healthy mother who will be around to see them grow up and become parents themselves. Fingers crossed!
PS Thank you all for your wonderful feedback and comments it certainly is appreciated. Will keep you posted when I get back home after the appointment and the U2 concert....yipee!!!

Hi Twicemy,

What ever you decide im sure you wont be disappointed with the Lockie team. They are really supportive and I like that I can call them at any time, even months out and be able to ask questions.

Mummies3 Boys: Dr Lockie didnt really go over the costs with me- but I had the free consultation with Shirley, his wife and Clinic Manager. Are you able to see if you can get an appointment with her while you are heading down to the practice and you can ask about all the costs, hospital stay, etc?

When I was deciding which surgeon to go with, I had made 2 appointments. One with the Lockies and one with another.

In the end I cancelled the second one because once I met the Lockies I was more than happy to go with them.

So good luck, Im sure you wont be disappoointed and the team is great.

Ask anything....

Twice my are you making it to the support group next week?

Went to see Dr Lockie as planned but a after a cry and a big dose of reality I am leaning more towards having the bypass instead of sleeve.

The reason being is that I am a big sweet eater. And I feel that I need more than just a sleeve but I have not made a decision 100% as yet.

But I liked talking to Dr Lockie and I am glad I have seen him.

Good luck

Just wondering how you went with your appointment with Dr Lockie. I am seeing him next week and now I am feeling quite anxious and yet somewhat excited....making a trip down to Brissy to see him...does he explain all the costs and length of stay in hospital.
Cheers xx
