| Thanks for the responses. Its kind of obvious isn't it that this body of mine ain't designed to carry 60kilos of extra weight....hell I couldn't even lift a third of that if I had to. Its good to know other peoples pains diminished or went away completely.... gives me faith that my body will be able to bounce back some too. Chrissy....I have the script for the cortisone shots, but am too scared to get it done. The doctor described it as "having a 12 inch nail pushed into your heel" Hmmm.....not in a hurry for that sensation just yet. issi said my BMI was in the 30's before I had lost all the fat pad between my thighs but once it got to 22-23, and bone on bone with a bit of skin between, the shin splints came, and all the other pains got worse and worseOuch issi that sounds painful. Hope the pain lessens more for you as time goes on. Thanks again Jackie | |

| I used to be in pain 24/7 with my feet, knees, hips and back and was living on pain meds. I now rarely take any pain meds, I am pain free with my hips and feet. Knees I have early stages of oestro-arthritis but 90% of the pain would be gone in them. Back also oestro-arthristis of lower spine, and I would say 80% of the pain is gone there. Have to look after my back, damage has already been done. Remedial massage every month is fantastic for it. So the loss of 50 kgs has certainly helped me. | |

| Hi,
My pain in my knees and hips was just unbearable. I used to cry sometimes stuck on the loo because I didn't want to put pressure on my knees knowing how much it would hurt. The pain in my knees has not gone completely because they are arthritic but it is about 20% to what it used to be. My hips and lower back, absolutely nothing, no pain.
Because I am so much more active all of my joints feel better, let's face it they are all being used now and exercise is good for them. Who knew LOL
Cheers Gail

| I should have clarified that I felt great when my BMI was in the 30's before I had lost all the fat pad between my thighs but once it got to 22-23, and bone on bone with a bit of skin between, the shin splints came, and all the other pains got worse and worse. They were the worst when my BMI was 20-21. Gaining weight back with the sleeve to closer to the 25 mark has made the pain less prevalent but it is still there to the point that I need to have physio/chiro every fortnight or it becomes unmanageable. | |

| Hi Jackie,
I really don't know about the spurs, but suspect your other aches & pains will be heaps better, if not gone. I ached all over from carrying all the extra weight, plus I had a bad fall a few years back and broke my shoulder and knee. Consequently, any activity was painful, up until early this year, I couldn't walk for 5-10 mins without needing to stop and preferably sit down, it was a nightmare. I still have some way to go, but already I can go to the gym (and work hard) everyday without pain, and easily walk for 1 - 1.5hrs 4-5 times a week without problems. I haven't had Issi's issues with pain increasing, I guess it depends on your individual health problems. I have just got better and better and things that I thought would be a permanent problem for me (like my knee & shoulder) are barely issues at all now.
Cheers - Carrie | |

| Mine got worse and different. I developed shin splints from the dramatic weight loss due to the way i stand changing from not having the big fat pad between my legs, it threw my back out as well and i had to have a couple of years of physio to try and get it better. Overall my general aches and pains got a lot worse before they got better. Orthotics and a good physio and chiro helped a lot for me to get through it... but i would cry in pain a lot the first few years after all the weight came off as it came off so fast that my body didn't have a chance to slowly adjust. | |

| Hi Jackie I have to tell you that most of my aches and pains have gone since losing the weight. Not all, obviously - but I'm probably in 75% less pain than before, which is wonderful! Of course it depends on what your problems are, and how old you are, and how active, etc. As for the spurs - sorry, but I'm not sure that losing weight will help them. I had them a few years ago, and had cortisone injections in them. Painful as hell, but really worthwhile.

| Hiya My body has been feeling wrecked with all this extra weight I'm carrying. A lot of the aches go away once the weight has been lost right?
My hips, legs and ankles feel tired all the time. I have plantar fasiliars*(sp) or spurs as they used to be known as (yeehaw!) on my heels.
I think I can't remember back to when my body felt good or normal....I hope I'm explaining this ok.
I know in the back of my mind that yes it will get better....just need reassurance.
ta ta for now Jackie | |
