| Thanks everyone for your response.
I have called the hospital and there is no issues with fake nails and there is no issues with nail polish either.
I was advised to take the polish off my toes just incase.

| I have them too and would not take them off for anyone....love them totally.
I sailed through 3 surgeries with them intact and the only problem being with the oxygen sats not being read properly sometimes. If this becomes a problem tell them to put the clip on a toe....a heads up from a nurse to me..only problem being I have acrylic toe nails too.....lol. I am such a princess.

| I asked this question the other day as I have gel nails. She just said to make sure that my toe nails were unpainted as they can use them instead. So I cancelled my pedicure, but I still have pretty fingernails LOL

| Hi Kylie
I have acrylic nails and have had no problems to date. I did ask my anaethetist if I needed to take the polish off them for surgery....she was fine with it (just as well I asked because EVERYONE else kept wanting me to take the polish off...)
The only problem is that I did have some problems with my oxygen sat levels in hospital and they were never really sure that it wasn't the nail polish getting in the way...
So my advice would be the same as others...check with your anaethetist...I certainly didn't have to take the nails themselves off....
cheers

| Usually fine, so long as they aren't so thick the oxygen sat probe won't read. Might be worth taking one off. Agree - easiest thing is to check with your doc. | |

| you need to ask your anethiest some will say acrylics are fine some won't but if you have to take them off make sure you get them soaked off properly to help protect your nails as much as possible | |

| Hi and help please
Not sure if this a stupid question or not but I have fake/acrylic nails and I was wondering if I should take them off before my surgery next week?
If not are they ok to have after the surgery. I know my nails and hair might be weak so having fake nails makes it worse! Some advice would be great please
