I always have made mine on water and only added honey after cooking....but then I still like having a coffee opti for breakfast! I'm sure hubby uses a whole litre of milk when cooking his. (one thing he NEVER asks me to make for him, lol)

Hi Steph,

My mother used to always make it with water, but since I discovered that the instructions on the box said water or milk, I've been using milk and liking it a lot more. Mind you, my mother was a size 8-10, and until recently I was at least size 26, so she may have been on to something, LOL.

Cheers - Carrie

For me I usually have an Up & Go for breakfast during the week as I am usually in a rush to get to work, so throw one in my bag and either have it while driving to work or once I get there. They are recommended by my dietitian, are low fat, high protein and very convenient, and don't taste half bad either. Have done this since I was sleeved. Prior to sleeving never ate breakfast, so now that I have the Up & Go, I do notice that i have more energy to start the day and at least I don't skip breakfast altogether.

I so want to try that new forme satisfy yoghurt with the extra protien in. getting a protien and calcium hit in one tiny container less than 100 calories that tastes like cheesecake mmmmmmmmmmm that is so for me :)

I have been eating porridge for breakfast ever since I was able to eat solids after the op.
I open half a packet of Uncle Toby's porridge and have the other half the next day.
You can make it to preferred consistency, whether it be thicker or runnier. I prefer it more milky myself.

Hi Margi...thrilled to meet another April sleever -- and a WA one at that. I endorse Gail and Apple's suggestions although I am not following them as I hate opti shakes with a passion. HOWEVER, while I am not too fond of eggs, I have also had the occasional bit of scrambled egg for breakfast....or soup....or frozen yoghurt...or forme yoghurt. Many sleevers drink up n go or similar tetra pack drinks. About three weeks out I was also making up a smoothie at brekkie...which was easier to get down (and faster).

Come and say hi to the other April sleevers if you are interested...there are about 40 of us who were sleeved last month -- including several who were sleeved the same day as you! We've also been chatting recently on that thread about who is eating what.
http://www.gastricsleevesupport.com/the-sleever-s-monthly-f29/april-2010-sleevers-t2711.htm

Also check out the post-op thread and people's diaries...you'll find many of the older hands have faithfully updated their diaries -- laying out a great breadcrumb trail for us to follow.

You've also done the right thing asking your question...the other sleevers are wonderfully generous and helpful and while all our experiences are our own...and there can be great differences between who's doing what, when; you'll be amazed to see how much commonality there is -- and how answers have been provided to the half-formed questions you didn't even know you had :)

regards

S

I agree if breaksfast is a slow struggle still and without knowing WHAT you are eating that makes it so slow then go for an optifast or a tony ferguson or any of the other complete meal replacement shakes. You should overcome this slow eating well that slow in time so it is not as tho it is for ever. It means you get in a good healthy low cal breakie :)

Hi,

Believe it or not I still have an opti for breakfast most days.
Or scrambled egg, I always have something high protein though because it helps with the energy to start the day.

Congratulations on the sleeve.

Hugs Gail
