| Hi all,,, I am off to Phuket tomorrow for my 50th Birthday I hope I don't get diarrhoea :( would spoil my holiday. Before I had my sleeve done I was going to the loo every 10 to 14 days since having the sleeve done I am a little more regular about every 7 or 8 days:) | |

| "Apparently" you can loose full control over your bowel.I know it sounds silly but scares the crap out of me.
Oh, and to answer your question LFed, I have heard of a VERY RARE complication of surgery being issues with bowel function, however my surgeon dismissed this as being one of the less concerning potential complications as it rarely happens. Funny use of term (scares the crap out of me!!) LOL. If in doubt ask your surgeon/do some more research. | |

| I have been diagnosed with a mild lactose intolerance (pre-surgery) and for the most part I'm perfectly fine. The diarrhoea isn't unexpected - usually it starts with cramping and general uncomfortable feelings, and I know that it's a good idea to head to the bathroom. Now that I've eliminated dairy from my diet it rarely happens. Don't panic, if it is lactose intolerance (either temporary or permanent) it is easy enough to live with, and just requires some basic diet modification. Good luck. Cx | |

| a few people mostley those with a slight intolerance before or others in their family with lactose intolerance CAN suffer from this for a short time after surgery. that being short term lactose intolerance.
unless you are going to be stupid and keep sucking down the milk in that sensitive few weeks
IF you are one of the few then no you are not going to go dhopping and do it in your pants. it is a total lie. Just be aware the first few times you have milk that you make sure you are not one of those tiny few and avoid for a while and test whilst at home to reintroduce into your diet.

| I am almost 2 weeks post sleeve and also have had sudden unexplained bouts of diarrhoea, at first I thought it was due to the antibiotics in hospital but maybe it's the yoghurt drinks. I found them much more palatable than anything else. | |

| This in one of the things I am really worried about. I have had a number of people trying to scare me out of it. This is one of the main reasons. "Apparently" you can loose full control over your bowel. I know it sounds silly but scares the crap out of me. Anyone else heard of that happening..??? | |

| Thanks for the tips. Cut down milk products and found the situation improved greatly. Am going to try Zymil and see if things remain stable. | |

| Yep, too much milk wasn't my friend so I use low fat Zymil milk which is lactose free and it works a treat. My bowels went from not working to ah working too well for a long time after the op but I also found Benefiber every second day helps heaps so I recommend that too. | |

| Benifibre is still your friend it will help firm things up as well as help you go. Worth a try. I also agree with watch and see if milk is the problem. A few people can be a bit sensitive to milk in the first few weeks after surgery.

| I have had this too but found it was usually after eating yoghurt or a smoothie so I put it down to my tummy not being too happy with milk products at the moment. But has really only happened twice. Wendy | |

| I had this too for the first couple of weeks after surgery. After speaking to the dietician, she thought it may be the Berocca so I cut this out and sure enough the diarrohrea stopped! She said Berocca or Supradyn are quite strong and for some people they are too harsh for their systems, especially when your stomach is recovering from a massive operation. | |

| Most have problems the other way round so I should say lucky you but I won't. Certain foods set me off so maybe keep a diary and see if it is something you are eating. Things that I had before the op are now different after so you need to look at foods now. | |

| I am finding that I am getting frequent bouts of diarrhoea. Has anyone else had this problem and what should I be doing to prevent it? Can't determine a pattern for when it happens but am getting scared to eat anything when I need to go out. Maybe I'm eating too little? Any suggestions? | |
