| Hi meghan,
I'm on:
2-3 days fluids only whilst in hospital. 3-4 weeks puree diet (as tolerated) 2 weeks soft diet Gradual intro to solids from week 6 post op.
Seems to be we all end up at solids at 6 weeks. I'm not sure that once youve chewed anything 25 times theres alot of difference between a pureed and a soft diet, but I sure am hanging out for a piece of toast for brekkie!!
Each surgeon/dietician seems to do their own thing...and we all seem to be doing OK despite any variations in these regimes.
I'm progressing well on pureed diet, no probs, no vomiting.

| I was originally told I would be on fluids for 2 weeks post op, but when I went for my check up one week after surgery I was told I could start with soft foods and puree fruits at day 10 post op and that I could advance throught the stages at 5 to 7 day intervals. Told to listen to my body and what it would tolerate. I am now 4 weeks post op and able to eat anything without trouble as long as I chew it well and eat slowly. I haven't tried any nuts yet as I am a bit hesitant about them still. | |

| I also noticed that everyone has a different regime for the different stages of food.
I have a booklet that the dietician gave me that I follow:
clear fluids until day 4 Nourishing fluids until day 14 Pureed foods until week 6 normal diet week 6-8 onwards
I'm week 5 today and still on pureed foods. In another week I can go to a regular diet.

| My dietician said approx 2 weeks on each. So, clear liquids in hospital and make up that fortnight with nourishing liquids, then thin purees for 2 weeks, then mushies and then onto real food.
I know I'll get my post op diet (in stone) from the surgeon and dietician soon, but now I am curious to know how long everyone else was advised to stay on each stage.
I'm really surprised to see people eating toast 4 days post op!
