eat bread) there are so many things you can add it to. It is a mixture of ground linseed, sunflower seeds and almonds and has a pleasant nutty taste. The taste is actually quite mild so it doesn't change the taste of other things. It is full of protein and Omega fatty acids, so it's a super food.

Protein powder, the one I use is called Lean Dessert Protein by BSN, it's in bright red pots with silver grey lids. You can buy it at most healthfood shops, some chemists and specialist sports shops. It comes in 6 flavours, Choc Fudge, Choc Coconut, Vanilla Cream, Banana Nut Bread, Banana Cream and Cinnamon Scroll, they are all nice but my favourites are Choc Coconut and Banana Nut Bread. You can use them whizzed up with water or low fat milk. As part of a smoothie with low fat milk, yoghurt and fresh fruit and a little honey. You can sprinkle them on cereal and mix them into yoghurt. I've even used them when making a cheesecake.

A very yummy new product I was told about recently is Heinz shredded chicken in sauce, you can find it where the tinned fish is at Woolies or IGA. I love the mayo one mixed with mashed avocado, that's something you could take to work to either eat on it's own or spread on crispbread.

Also if you make mashed potato you can add LSA or a beaten egg or avocado (which has vegetable protein and good oil).

Hope these help, btw you were sleeved just 10 days before me, I start mushies tomorrow.

Hi there,
I made up the Opti shake for breakfast, drank what I could and then carried the rest in a chiller bag and sipped it when I needed. You can make up a double mix which would last all day. The recipes in the post-op area are great for the mushies.
I also boiled eggs, added mayo and for a change added curry powder. The mayo adds moisture and is easier to swallow.
It is now 10 weeks since I was sleeved and I still have the Opti shakes for breakfast, it is when I have my medications as some need to be taken with food. Sometimes I have bacon and egg for lunch or dinner.
I haven't had a blood test since the op so don't know if everything is OK, but I feel great.
I often forget to have my multivitamin . (My fault)

Yay I am not the only one that recommends opti LOL
Sorry some people on here give me a hard time because they think that I have an opti addiction.

I am so glad that you spoke to the dietitian. When I was first done I would make up one opti and just sip out of the fridge.
When it was gone I would make up another one and so on until I got enough goodies in.
Hang tough it will all come right.

ta!
Went to the doc yesterday. I'm just run down from not eating enough and trying to go to work and all the other daily things that I'm trying to do. Fit that in with not getting in enough food, and you have one very worn out Rainy.
So. Plan B.
Thanks for the names of some of these products and the places were to get them!!
I will now go have a look next time I'm in town and happily buy! In the meantime, my dietician said that Opti is my friend. 1/2 a shake cause that's all I can fit in and make sure I have something every couple of hours or so. That's where I was failing miserably and I knew it.
Oh well.
Live and learn.
Thank goodness for this forum!!

I use Pro10Active protein powder, add a heaped tablespoon to my morning shake it adds an additional 8 gms of protein.

I tried the new canned shredded chicken, found it took a lot of chewing, but then I tried it earlier on when on the soft diet. Might be alright mixed with something.

Cottage cheese half and half with tuna in brine it great for lunch and heaps of protein.

With time you will be able to get more in, I can drink a whole shake in 20 minutes now. I found this after about 6 weeks. Liquids go down much better and quicker now.

Hi Rainy,

I struggled with the same thing when I went back at work. I make up a chicken salad or zucchini frittata or a boiled egg and keep it in the fridge at work in snack containers which is protein on tap. Yes, I am often in the fridge every 3hrs or so to get a little bit more but it keeps me going. I also have little tins of tuna and take fresh salad with me and pick at that for a couple of hours. I have the little jellies in the fridge as well which is a sweet treat when needed.

I never leave the house without a water bottle and have invested in a Thermos brand bottle that keep water cold for 12hours so I always have cold water with me. I also have Optifast at work and if have missed breakfast then a shake does the trick.

I also make sure I have something small to eat about 30 mins before I leave work which gets me home and through my PT session before heading home.

Good news - I had my blood work done 3 weeks ago and my protein levels have improved as have my Zinc, Iron and Vit D. I have been diligent about keeping up the protein count and it seems to be working.

All the best with the dietitian and let is know how you go.

Cheers,
Donna

Hey Rainy,
Are you also carrying the opti bottle made up around with you. If you are having trouble getting protein in try extra protein powder in whatever you have that will boost it. Don't forget things like very lose yogurt that can be made into a drink with yet again added protein. The secret is to keep the bottle or bottles with you and make it second nature to drink all the time.

Hope this helps a little and I know how exhausting dehydration is !! Pits

Hugs Gail

I realised yesterday, that I'm having a real problem
a/ keeping up my fluid intake
and
b/ keeping up my protein intake
moreso while I'm at work.
I really dehydrated myself the other day, and now know I can't leave my room without my water bottle, in case I get side tracked and go for a period of time without a drink in the present very hot weather[which was what happened the other day].
So now I find, I'm exhausted.
So - how can I increase my protein intake?
Food ideas needed please!
ANY help needed please!
I get to see dietician Friday week but need to survive between now and then...............
