| Hi Lea, I too can understand when you talk about PCOS. I didnt find out I had it till I tried to have a baby. I was lucky cause I was able to have clomid (cept not suppose to take it with PCOS) I now have a beautiful daughter who turns 5 next year. My heavist was 155kgs and at last weigh in i was down to 134.5kgs... One of the reasons was to help my medical problems (blood pressure, fluid retention, boarder line diabetes) One of the questions I did ask was would this help the PCOS and I was told yes... except i have to wait at least 16mnths before trying for a baby... but that aside i am so grateful for having the op and i was able to use my super to pay for it....since the op and the weight loss, i am feeling healthier despites having blue days here and there... and the best thing is i smiling much more and feeling so proud of myself... whilst i havent regained my periods yet.. i have noticed that the hair growth has slowed down..and i dont have to take any tablets !!! WOO HOO.. i wish u all the sucess in your journey.... u will achieve everything you want... jane | |

| Hi ya
I just wanted to welcome you to the sight even though Im a bit late saying so lol. Ive not been on for a few weeks but just wanted to say your health sounds extremely similar to mine so I can understand what you mean as it can be very hard. Im due to have my op on 21st October and am hoping it will help with my PCSO, fertility, weight, diabetes etc etc.... the list goes on lol. Good luck with your journey, Im sure it wont be long at all until you too have your op. Also thanks for sharing your story, Im sure things will just keep getting better and better as you both deserve it.

| Thanks everyone for your warm welcomes and words of advice.
i hope it doesn't take too much longer before i have my surgery done. i know i'll be in good hands with Dr Lockie and i'm told his wife helps him out as well (she's a nurse i think) they are such great people.
one thing that got me angry, after andrew had his operation, was on fathers day his side of our family all went out to a cafe in redcliffe for a breakfast, i had explained to the owner that Andrew was only going to be able to eat a very small amount of food and that he would take bits from my plate, so would it be alright to have a small bread plate so he can put his food on. the owner said to me "your getting a free juice with the meal, so why push it" . It was a buffett meal anyway.

| Welcome and congratulations on the decision. I was done last Wednesday so it is all very new and fresh for me. I already know it was the best thing I have done for myself. I envy you being so much younger and you will have such a renewed sense of life afterwards. Lucky you for having a hubby who has had it done so you can see first hand how it all works. It can be nervewracking not really knowing what lies ahead. | |

| Welcome Leanne
It's great that you have made the decision to improve your health, and life. I was sleeved in January and in August (about approx 7.5 months) I reached my goal weight, I can without a doubt say that this is the best thing I have ever done for myself and family.
I didn't have any health problems associated with my weight, but like you I have a strong family history for a number of nasty things, so I decided to do something about my weight before I too, was living on a cocktail of drugs like my parents.
Good luck with your upcoming journey.
xx Tamara | |

| Hi Lea, Welcome aboard. I can't help out with the PCOS but there is a thread and I am sure you will find it. What I can tell you is that I understand how you feel, you are so worried about getting it right and living with your in laws must be difficult for you. Try not to think too much about what they are thinking, you know that you want to change your life and that is the most important thing. You will get everything sorted out and then a year down the track a young woman who is healthy and happy will be looking back and be surprised that the year went by in the blink of an eye. Take care and there are plenty of us here to talk to any time at all that you need it. Hugs Gail. | |

| Hello and Welcome Lea, It must be hard watching your husband lose weight while your waiting for your turn. I know my husband can drop 5 kilos at the drop of a hat. Thanks for giving us such a great recount of your weight battles. We all have similar stories. Hopefully you can find the money for your surgery and you can join your husbands success. | |

| Hi Linda, Yes i remember you. it's great to know there are other patients of Dr Lockie on here. we will deffinately be at the support group meeting on monday too. Andrew's excited because he wants to see everyones reactions. also i love showing him off... i'm soo proud of him. Unfortunately for Andrew he got Glandular Fever from somewhere (could of been his work mate HA HA HA!) so he's had next to no energy for a few weeks and some foods he still has trouble with, but he's improving.
i'm looking forward to the support meeting... i think it's about exercise with Daniel. Hugs ~Lea~

| Hey lea :), I was sleeved by Dr Lockie on the 3rd of this month and I remeber you from a support group meeting, so far the only one I have been to, but the next one is monday evening and I will be there! Look lea i understand totally and you will lose weight, make yourself an appointment to see Shirley and discuss it with her. females do tend to lose weight slower than our men but it is a tool for a lifestyle change. i have more energy, sleeping better, havn't had to take my diabetes medication since the op and am on 1 antihypertensive med now instead of 2. I can see a difference in my body, clothes are starting to get loose. And you will have Andrew's support. There are more couples on here who have done it together, do a search and do as much reading as you can. Don't be scared to ask questions, everyone on here is so helpful. And there is a special section for PCOS,Diabetes and other health problems. Go for it! I wish I had done something when I was younger, but maybe it was meant to be as I wouldn't have had the option I did now. Hope to see you monday! | |

| Hi Leanne
You are definitely in the right place to get advice and support. The forum has a wealth of knowledge and knowledgable people! Go back and read some of the older posts as I am sure I saw something there about PCOS as well. Have you thought about trying to get money from your super? There is a thread about it on here as well.
Soon you will be enjoying life with your husband! Good luck and let us know of your progress.
AND WELCOME!!! | |

| hi all, like my husband (AndrewR) i am new here. i haven't had the sleeve gastrectomy yet but i deffinately am going to have it. seeing what my husband went through at first was a bit scary, but seeing him lose the weight inspires me a lot more to have it done. He had his surgery on the 10th of August at the Brisbane Private Hospital by Dr Lockie, before surgery at his heaviest he weighed 157.7kgs, on the 3 week liquid diet with Optislim he lost 12kg's and was 145kg the day of his surgery. it is now 29/9/2009 which will make it a month and 2 weeks out from his surgery and apart from getting glandular fever somehow, he is doing great!(weird and worrying part is that one of his work mates had glandular fever a few months ago and it's a male workmate too! LOL). He now weighs 122.5 kg's which make that a weight loss of 35kg's so far. he is about half way of his weightloss a month and a half out of surgery. he's absolutely surprised the team at Dr Lockie's. i'm hoping i have the same results too but i know i'll be slower.
in our family there are a lot of risks. Diabete's, PCOS, High blood pressure, High cholesterol, bowel and stomach cancer. i already have Diabete's, PCOS (PolyCystic Ovarian Syndrome),High blood pressure & High cholesterol so i know i have to do something about it now. at my heaviest i weighed 149kg's last year when i married Andrew, somehow without really changing much of what i do i have lost 10 kg's. but it's a slow process and i don't want to be on the roller coaster for the rest of my life. many people who don't understand why i want to have it done try to tell me "why don't you just eat the same amount as Andrew is having" or "just do this and that" well A, Andrew had over half of his stomach taken out so he has to only be able to eat that amount, and B, try losing the weight by yourself with PCOS, it's a lot harder to lose the weight with PCOS. i also like what the surgeons wife said to us when Andrew had his first appointment "we have a team of experienced Dietician's, Psychologists & Exercise Physiologists specialising in Obesity and if they haven't come up with the answers yet, then some Joe Blow on the side of the street can't tell you to just eat right and exercise and you lose the weight, because it is so much more than just exercising and eating right, it's psychological and emotional as well!" My mum is the type of person who doesn't believe in depression, or eating food for comfort, or how hard it is for people to lose weight these days. so i grew up with a confused child hood. i wasn't a big child, i was pretty slender, it wasn't till i was about 14-15 that i started putting on weight. I found out i had PCOS at 15, back then i was told that it was pretty rare for someone that young to have it, but i did. as the weight kept creeping up, i also noticed other symptoms of PCOS like Hirsutism (excess facial and body hair) & irregular periods. when i finished high school i weighed 100kg's. so i decided to join a gym with my best friend but my weight only increased. by 2005 when i met my Husband i weighed 120kg's, i had been working in K-Mart for 3 years and the excess weight was starting to take it's toll on my body. i had sore heels all the time, i had always had trouble with my wrists but along with being on checkouts and service desk they worsened. then in march 2006 i moved in with Andrew and we lived with his mum and dad for a month till the rental property they owned became vacant and we moved in, it was only next door to his mum and dad's so moving was a sinch. i had transferred to another k-mart but it would take me an hour by bus every time i went to work. my wrists worsened and i was put on the door more and more, which with my sore heels i developed spurs, so i had to quit. my weight in the next year bloomed to 130 then to 140 the year after. it wasn't till i was shopping for my wedding dress did i realise just how big i had gotten. we had moved out of the rental property cause the family wanted to renovate it then sell it. but the high rental cost where too much for us so now we are living back with his parents trying to pay off our debt and save for a house. with me unable to work it'll be another year till our debt is cleard and are able to go for a home loan, so i know that i have to have the surgery soon. it's just a matter of saving for it and making sure my high blood pressure is under controll.
so i'm a sitting duck for now, trying to pass the time by making cards for family and friends (birthday, sympathy, christmas.....ect.) sometimes i feel that his family think that i am here for a ride. i've told Andrew so many times that that's what i feel. he understands how much trouble i have... even just putting a bra on is painful. i have to have Andrew clip me up. but i help him out as best as i can.
Does anyone else have PCOS and have had a good weightloss after surgery? just want to know if the sleeve will help at all. or if it's the best option. thanks for taking your time to read my long introduction. it's really appreciative! Hugs ~Lea~
