| Thanks for that info steph, I haven't been given an appointment to see the anesthetist yet, I wonder if I should ring Dr France's office to see if one should be arranged. I'd feel like a bit of a dipstick if I did though as I was speaking to his secretary today rescheduling my endoscopy appointment!! | |

| Hi Captain Legless,
I had the dietician visit me in hospital and I know my surgeon also likes to send his patients around 2 months post op.
Yes it is normal to see the anaethetist before the surgery however, as my surgery date was brought forward 3 weeks I never had a pre op appointment with him but he did ring me on the morning of the surgery at 7am when he realised I was on his list for the day and he hadn't seen me so we did it all over the phone and then when I got to hospital he came to see me there as well.
I think we have the same surgeon. From memory you are seeing Dr France aren't you? I have just had my post op appointment with him today.
All the best with the optifast.

| Hey Captain,
I was asked by quite a few members if they could have it this way, as there are is no way for members to switch between which way you would prefer it. Before I changed it, you had to scroll to the very last phage just to see your reply, so it has proved much easier this way. However, I am rather open to change back if there is a majority vote for it. Sorry I cant help you more!! Any other questions, please go to the 'general' section and post there.

| Thanks for the welcome folks.
I have to do the Optifast thing for 3 weeks prior to my op. Is it the "norm" to have an appointment with the dietitian at some time either prior to or post op? Is there an appointment with the anesthetist at sometime before the appointment?
Bad apple, you lost 30Kg pre op on Optifast!!!??? If I did that there'd be no need for the damned operation!! I'm around 110Kg now and would be happy to be 80 - 85Kg.
Cheers - Clive
P.S. I'm not a virgin when it comes to using forums but why can I not arrange the posts in this forum so that I can read them from the top down ??!?!??!? As it is, to follow a thread, I have to go to the last page then read from the bottom up!! Where are the options to change this...............pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeease!!??

| Hi there captain legless & again welcome.
As my other half applesauce said we found trying to mix optifast & normal meals we found difficult to do & sticking to a mainly optifast regime was a better option. I achieved the bulk of my weight loss so far pre op (30kg) on this regieme but every one's journey is different & it is up to your self to find what works for you.

| Hi Captain Legless, and welcome I agree that it's easier to stay on Opti when you do 3 meals a day - but you could have veggies at night and pretend that you're having 2 courses - veggies and dessert. Worked for me! Chris | |

| Captainlegless this is going to sound strange BUT 3 shakes a day is easier after you have done it for 4 days your body goes into ketosis and your hunger just goes away. You can still have head hunger and cravings but the actual physcial hunger stops as long as you do NOT cheat. If you cheat you go back to square one and start the 4 days of hell as I call it all over again. I did it for 12 weeks the male of the species in this house for 13 weeks, trust me we wouldnt have lasted a week on 2 meals a day as you are so hungry all the time. welcome :)

| Good on you CaptainLegless,
Congratulations on your decision.
How long does Dr France want you on Optifast for?
I can understand your hesitation in giving up your evening meal.
I was lucky I didn't have to do the Optifast diet before surgery but am on it now :lol!:
All the best, steph :flower:

| G'day sleevers. I'm a 53yr old bloke who uses a wheelchair due to an accident many years ago. Over the last 6 years or so I've piled on weight and it's making life more difficult than it already is.
I've tried dieting to lose weight but I just can't seem to make it happen so now I've decided to go the whole hog and have something a bit more radical done.
I was referred to Dr France in May and he suggested the best form of treatment for me would be a gastric sleeve rather than lap banding.
I'm due for surgery on the 28th of August at Ashford hospital with Dr France and am obviously a bit apprehensive about things. :affraid:
I've got a supply of Optifast and have tried using the shakes as substitutes for breakfast and lunch with some degree of success - still can't get away from a decent meal in the evening though!!
You folks all seem pretty positive about things after your surgery so I can only hope I will be in the same boat too.
