| If I had to pay for the barium swallow I think I would of cracked it! Worst test ever! hehe I still have nightmares thinking about it!!!
In fact, I'm still scared of why it took so long, and sometimes... When I'm in a delusional mood... I think I really should go get another one to see what they say now... and see what my tummy actually looks like!! But only when I'm loosing the plot... hehe
On a more rational note... I'm with NIB and I didn't have to pay for it.
So the prices havn't gone up in 2 years...

| I was sleeved by Dr Aly , Darebin WLS in mid November, out of pocket for clinic was $4500, plus I had a hospital stay PHI excess. Anaesthetist fee was covered by PHI, no OOP, but I had to pay for the swallow test, about $235, top cover with HCF, my SIL didn't have to pay anything for that (same surgeon & hospital, different PHI company)
I have the same appointment schedule as you, greenfrog - had my first post op at 10 days out, have had one further appt with the dietitian at about 3 months (no follow up bloods then, to my GP's and my surprise) bloods to be checked at 6 mths - those will be bulk billed.
Rainbow Mum did you end up going with Darebin ?

| My costs are from 2 years ago... you will need to check if there still current. There is a link on the first page of my diary. Post management If I remember correctly was appointment with the surgeon and dietician, 2 weeks after the op, then 3 months, then 6 months, then yearly appointments. They send me a referral to have my bloods checked about 2 months before my yearly appointment. They also organise dinners 2 or 3 times a year with a guest speaker (ie surgeon, plastic surgeon and also people who have had the sleeve and there stories), also good to meet fellow sleevers if you decide to be a secret sleever. Good to talk to various people about there experiences in person. Pre... I can't remember exactly (its in my diary if you have a spare 10 minutes to read through...) I warn you there's no award winning writing in there! hehe Its up to you if you see both clinics. If you feel comfortable with the first appointment, then stick with it. With Darebin you can have an initial appointment with the practise manager and have a chat (used to be free, not sure now). Get a feel for the place and ask about the costs and what bits a pieces they offer. | |

| Subject: Darebin Weightloss clinic or VOSC, bypass or sleeve , costs with PHI? Sat 12 Mar 2016, 9:18 am | |
| Looking for honest feedback from those who have experienced Melbourne Weightloss Surgery or VOSC, with Dr Adam Skidmore.
It is reassuring to read positive feedback regarding Darebin Weight loss clinic , when I went to get my Gp referral for Adam Skidmore at VOSC, the clinic suggested I should also see Darebin WL, to compare costs & case management styles . I have Top cover PHI with Teachers Health, would any one be prepared to outline their full cost with either Surgery team? And, just as importantly, pre & post case management . I have an initial first app with Dr Skidmore in 10 days time. Should i also follow up with Darebin ? Your expertise would be greatly appreciated. Becca pre pop newbie

| It's hard. I have 3 young children so I'm restricted to hospitals in the Northern suburbs of Melbourne. | |

| Personally, I organised my own support structure outside of the clinic. Especially because I was a secret sleever and only 2 people knew.
But not sure how many clinics run other support structures after surgery.
Mostly, I was more comfortable talking to other practitioners than the psychologist/psychiatrist (I can't remember what she was... sorry). So I saw a kinesiologist before and after my surgery. I do think you can organise to see the psychologist/psychiatrist again if you need to.
I think getting the head stuff is important, because its soo easy for me to fall back into the whole shoving food into my mouth without really being hungry. I assume some others would be the same. So, when people ask on the forum should I wait a year for my health insurance to kick in or self-fund, I always say self-fund and work on the head stuff.
Sorry... rambling... off topic...
I also say... go and see a couple of surgeons or go talk to there nurses, or go to a couple of information sessions, and see if you feel comfortable with that clinic. Again personal opinion, for me, it was about who I felt 'safe' and 'comfortable' with more than were they were and how much. But again... everyone's different.
Yep, I'm opinionated... hehe
Rainbow Mum, I think there's a post somewhere on here that has a list of suggested questions. Will take a look for you.

| Thanks for your feedback. I'm not sure what to do now as I really need the support structures in place. I might keep looking. | |

| Hi PurpleK I was sleeved by Dr Aly almost 8 weeks ago. The whole team are great, and he is a greatly respected surgeon. I have had no problems whatsoever, my scars are really neat, and the nurse who looked after me said that if she ever needed this type of surgery, Dr Aly would absolutely be her top pick. I went to Warringal as well. The only negative for me is that there are hardly ANY 'consulting' appointments, it's really left up to you to do your research. I only saw him once pre op, & I didn't even see him for my first post op appt, 2 weeks later, it was with a different surgeon, and my next appointment is with the dietitian, and not till early Feb, so you're very much left to your own devices, no follow up psych , or early dietitian appointments. I would still go with him again, and would recommend him, but I wish there was a bit more interaction with him and his team. | |

| I was sleeved by him, so were a few others on the forum.
Very happy with my experience. I was sleeved at the Warringal Hospital about 18 months ago. I haven't had any issues apart from the normal fun stuff that seems to happen after the sleeve. I'm now at yearly follow ups with the dietician and a quick chat with Ahmad and I also go to the dinner that get organise a few times a year. Love that.
Any questions feel free to ask.
