Like everyone else said, you will need to check with centrelink. But I think it will count as income, and may effect your benefits. Especially since you can't clain medical stuff on your tax.

I'm sorry I can't answer your question but suggest you ring centrelink for their advice. I know that the tax office considers it income for tax purposes and takes the tax from your remaining balance. You would think that if you can prove that you are using this money for medical treatment that they would not take it in to account for your centrelink payments after all it is not being used for living expenses!

Hi guys, If I get $8k out of super for my op, will it affect my centrelink payments? If so, is it just for that fn I get the extra income? Is there any way to prove its for surgery and be exempt from being 'punished'?
