| Hi Pirate,
You really are in good hands with Garett. I felt the appointment with the dietician, Zoe, was the one where I was screened for suitability for the surgery. She asked me all the questions about my food habits etc and actually said to me that I was a good candidate. I think I would have been referred to a psychologist if I had thrown up any red flags to her.
Good luck with the surgery! I've written quite a lot in my diary if you're interested.

| I will be having my surgery with Prof. Garrett Smith soon. The more I read books and blogs written in the USA the more I wonder why I only get to see the surgeon once before the procedure, and he didn't ask even basic questions about why I want the surgery or if I am mentally strong enough to make a success of it. It all seems too rushed in Australia. | |

| Thanks FoxyRoxy,
I was sleeved by Dr Smith at the end of March and found him wonderful. It seems most people in this area go for the slickness of the OClinic setup but my experience of Dr Smith was really great.
You were absolutely right in that he was there for me - he saw me every day in hospital and was happy to chat and answer all my questions - he called me back after I had a concern once I was home.
Once I had the initial consultation following the seminar, I was booked in as soon as I wanted. (4 weeks in my case).
North Shore Private Hospital was outstanding and very comfortable.
I have no hesitation in recommending Dr Smith at all.

| Hi Totoro
I was sleeved in June last year by Dr. Taylor but my first choice was Dr. Garret Smith. He was recommended to me by 3 different GP's (all unrelated).
I went to his seminar as well and had all the appointments booked and scheduled and was happy with my choice. Actually I hear he is a Professor now .... His reputation precedes him.
In the end and due to personal circumstances I ended up having to cancel (death in family) and couldn't get surgery dates for sometime. I ended up going to Dr. Taylor who scheduled me in within 5 weeks and although I have nothing but praise for him as well, it hasn't had that personal touch that a Dr./patient should have - if you understand what I mean!
So to clarify and being really honest.
Dr. Taylor - great surgeon, great team. Very slick professional operation but impersonal and you might only ever meet him once. You will deal with his team.
Dr. Smith - no doubt a great surgeon. My dealings with him/team have been kind, warming and very personal. My gut feel is that he will hold your hand the whole way through and be there for you
I have no doubt which ever surgeon you choose the surgery will be successful.
Hope this has helped
Good luck

| Good morning all,
I'm just after some recent experiences with Dr Smith - I have searched but the most recent is a few years ago...
I was given a referral to Dr Smith by my GP who personally recommended him - he had assisted in a procedure with him and was very impressed.
I attended the information seminar at North Shore Private Hospital was was impressed by his manner, and his responses to my (sometimes curly!) questions.
I gave birth to my two children at the hospital so know all about that aspect....more like a hotel really!!
However from reading many different forums, the most popular surgeon appears to be Dr Craig Taylor at the OClinic.
So, I'd love to hear of any recent experiences with Dr Smith.
Thank you. | |
