| Becsmum is generally correct; though to add to it; some cosmetic surgery is excluded; though whereweight loss to fix a deformity; it is claimable; where a Medicare item number is utilised. Also note that with the new law passed in June 2013; states that they are phasing out Net Medical expenses to an extent (only can claim going forward, if you claim in 2013; hence do not claim in the tax return in 2013; you cannot claim in 2014) except for disability aides and some other item). On top of that if your family Separte Net Income is higher ($$'s would have to look up); The net medical expenses is for Level 2 10% of the Net expenses over $5000; so it has changed quite a bit. Look it up on the ATO website. | |

| T6 - Total net medical expenses 2013 Did you have net medical expenses over $2,120 in 2012–13? Net medical expenses are your total medical expenses less refunds from Medicare and private health insurers which you, or someone else, received or are entitled to receive. Medical expenses do not include contributions to a private health insurer, travel or accommodation expenses associated with medical treatment, or inoculations for overseas travel.
You can include medical expenses relating to an illness or operation paid to legally qualified doctors, nurses or chemists and public or private hospitals. However, expenses for some cosmetic operations are excluded. | |

| So long as you have kept your receipts, I think any thing over the $1000 threshold you can claim against your tax. Love btgirl | |
