Hi gusthemus, My surgery with dr low went really well. No complications and I'm nearly 50kg down since surgery. Another 15 and I will hit goal. I'm about 6 months out and couldn't be happier. The only is hiccup I had is that I had to go to icu the first night as I had chest pains but I actually think looking back that it was the air that they pump into u during surgery that was the problem. I had severe sleep apnea so it was a pre-caution. Good luck it is by far the best thing I have done for myself and my family. Pm me anytime if u want more info about wat to expect. Good luck :-)

| I had a sleep study done last year at a private clinic and really unhappy with the people (or should I say salespersons) who I saw. They 'diagnosed' me as having severe obstructive sleep apnoea, when the report (I have access to my full report) says I had 1 obstructive apnoea episode per hour. It was hypopnoea that gave me 54 episodes an hour, and my 02 sats never went below 80%. Still not fantastic but no where near as devastating as the severe obstructive sleep apnoea they told me I have and would most likely die in my sleep from if I didnt purchase their $1500 machine.
So I tested the machine, which was counter productive - three nights in a row of getting 2 hours of sleep (after I took the mask off and before the alarm for work went off) made me want to go postal (it was scary how lack of sleep made me feel out of control!) I went back and asked if there were alternatives to the machine and was told no and had the door shut in my face. Aaaand insert profile pic here...
^ Thats gonna be funnier when I change my profile pic one day lol

| Hi Swayback, The specialists rooms told me that it is not necessary for everyone. I have not seen the Respiratory Physician yet but it is up to them. So far, from what I can tell, we fill out a comprehensive questionnaire and then in our appointment they will do more tests and talking and then decide what is needed. I'm sure there are many others on here with a lot more info on it than I have. I'm just a rookie going through all the initial stages myself :) | |

| Do you know if everyone does a sleep study? I had one about 7 years ago and they wired me up and let me do the study at home in my own bed and go back to have it all removed the next morning.
I hate the thought of a perfect stranger watching me drool in my sleep. |

| Thanks ladies. My BMI is extremely high so that's why I don't imagine it's that. I've been thinking the same as you Bearsa, 3 weeks to help everything along as much as I can. I have not had my sleep study yet, I see them in Berwick next week. It will be interesting to see what they say. | |

| 2weeks for me but I'm thinking I might do 3 just to help kick start weightloss. Being lighter for surgery can't hurt I'm sure!! I found out I have obstructive sleep apnea from my sleep study. I stop breathing 156 times an hour  no wonder I'm tired lol | |

| 4 weeks for me, I think the higher your BMI the longer they want you on optifast to shrink your liver. | |

| Hey Bearsa and anniemay.
How many weeks optifast are you on prior to your surgery?
He's told me 2 weeks. Just wondering if he gives the same for everyone or different.

| I met with Dr Low also and he was really nice. My GP had heard of him and said great things and I did some research and it appears he is quite new in regards to weight loss surgery but he is an experienced upper gastrointestinal surgeon. I am about to start the process of accessing my super to have the surgery with him. | |
