| Hi,it is stressed that you no longer have any fizzy or gassy drinks after sleeve surgery due to them causing too much wind/gas and bloating which can do damage to the suture line and possibly causing a leak.i never drank many fizzy drinks any way so I do not miss them at all, best to be on the safe side and not have them at all.over time all you could end up doing is stretching your new small stomach back out to a big stomach which is not the idea of this surgery.

| I used to drink a bottle or two of diet mineral water based fizz a week, then had a plataue on my weight loss. My daughter is into Paleo and she gave me a bit of a talking to. I havent had a drop since and have now moved on with good weight loss and feeling water is the only option in between meals, green tea with pomegranite or a hot chocolate, or cappacino - a couple of times a week.
Now - I wouldnt touch the stuff, it is full of unnatural rubbish that a person recovering from major surgery really doesnt need in their body during healing. Anyhow, it's my view....now I'm not only a recovering foodie and now a recovering softie drinker!

| I wouldn't bother at all.. Flat or not. You risk damaging your staple line and recovery.. It can also blow up in your stomach and there is a risk of stretching your sleeve, or causing great discomfort. Iced tea has a bit of caffeine? | |

| That early out, I wouldn't bother, to be honest.
There's the risk of it not being completely flat, and I personally wouldn't want to be taking any chances of damaging my stomach less than 2 weeks post op.

| I am not getting surgery till June. But I drink betwern 1.5-2ltrs of real coke everyday. Only addiction and caffine. I have decided to kick this before surgery. I know its isn't long but I am 3 days without coke. I feel like crap I never knew how bad its had a hold on me. I have been So tired annd my Dr gave me accupunture for the headache. Be did advise not to to cold turkey on this as it is an addiction but I am sticking to my guns on this one. Just a heads up for anyone else in my shoes | |

| If you must have - make sure it's completely flat.
I have received a huge bollocking from my surgeon because it looks like I may of stretched my bypass from having sparkling water. I will need have further tests to check but considering I had the sleeve in July, emergency bypass in September and now only 6 months later have the prospect of further surgery I am going to personally (without any dieticians advise) recommend you don't have it.
Feeling a tad down about it as I'm not a huge soft drinker and if I do, it's coke zero, but I definately had several sparkling waters about 2-3 months after.
Everyone reacts differently tho and I've heard of other sleevers enjoying a diet coke a day, still losing weight and no probs so its up to the individual.

| Hi, nearly 3 weeks post op here, I tried flat lemonade - tum hated it, a week later I had some other flat soft drink whilst out - (was v flat I thought) and well, that night I had gas pain - after having none for ages.
so maybe go carefully - have it flat early in the day, so the gas has a chance to move out before you sleep?
good luck!

| I have my notes from my doctor in front of me as i have not yet had the op I can only go by them. They say "avoid fizzy drinks the gas may trap in your new stomach and cause pain or discomfort" thats recommended for weeks 1 to 4.
So I think not sorry but ring your doctor to check.

| I'm seeing my dietician next week. But was just wondering when I would be safe to drink coke zero? I'm now 8 days post op. I'm craving caffeine and the problem is I don't drink tea or coffee. Thanks for your advice :) | |
