I found my hair fell out really bad from three to six months and it has eased of a bit now, I tried taking tablets but don't feel they helped me.

My dietitian said it was lack of protein that causes hair to drop out for a while... I haven't had any abnormal amount of loss, but I am only just under 3 months out.

I should've started taking these pre-op but I'm going to start taking a Hair, Skin and Nails supplement. I've taken Blackmores in the past. I wonder if other brands are better, ie Swisse. They'd probably have the same amount of everything in them anyway, right?

MJ78- thanks for your advice. Where can I buy those 2 products you were talking about? I did go and buy the swisse multi today.

I am just so worried that I am nealry bald in spots now, before I have surgery, I scared how bad it will get once I have it done.

Hi leanne,

I had hair loss and my haridresser recommended Activance with rhodanide. You spray it on the problem areas and massage it on the scalp. It has defintley slowed the rate fo hair loss but nothing but time will give you your hair back! As loubylou said, it is temporary and your hair will recover. Protein and for me gelatine based foods help my hair and nails when they're not so great (even pre sleeve).

Oh and I saw your other post about whether or not to have surgery. I have that amount to lose and have lost 23kg so far (in 5 months) and wish I had surgery sooner.

Good luck

It happens very gradually - I too have very thin hair (before surgery) and it was a problem for a while about 5 months post surgery - but it does grow back and it s now back to my pre-surgery condition.

Get a hair and nail supplement and start taking it at least a couple of months before surgery if you can - or start now. One that contains silica will help with the hair loss. You can get this is tablet or liquid form (think it is swisse multi).

It is just a temporary state so don't stress about it too much - and speak to your hairdresser who will help with a style that will help to hide the worst bits and will avoid using products which will damage you hair further.

Good Luck
