| I found benefibre was great after the banding. It has no taste and it doesn't go gluggy in drinks etc. There is also a kiwifruit product that is nice to take, it comes in frozen bars, and it's called Kiwicrush.Either eat it as an iceblock, or mix with hot water and drink. | |

| Water posed not real issue for me with the band...it did but this is a bit worse... its like being super full with an air bubble under it on the first sip... with the band it just backed up and over flowed for me, so I would drink slower and it would go
It seems smaller amounts of water are problematic for me with the sleeve than they are with the band

| Trishah, that is the same as the band, band possibly worse in the respect that fluids go down in a gurgle, like in a spiral. Really annoying because you can feel it go down like that at times. My hubby used to say I was lucky no one could hear it going down, as it would sound like the bath tub emptying.... So I'm used to eating & drinking slower.
As I have never told friends or family about my band, people asways remark as to how slowly I eat, so my answer to them is I like to savour my food... I wanted so much for the band to work, infact I had no idea just how many people it failed on until one of my two Drs (who have both been sleeved) spoke to me recently. This new journey just cannot come quick enough.

| Katie you dont need a script... its in the laxative section of most chemists... its about $19 a tub. It has seriously changed my life.
Vicki for some reason water seems to stick... it goes down a lot easier if it has something to break it down like diet cordial. Having said that If I have it ice I can sip it and get my quota in.
Its all about sipping now not gulping. Imagine pouring a glass of water slowly into a funnel...then imagine dumping it in fast.
Its the same pricinpal... slower goes down, fast backs it up

I need to go to the chemist tomorrow so I will ask about the OSMOLAX !!! I have used Senacot for years as it always works quickly & after using it for so long I know exactly how much to take....BUT after I have the sleeve done I realise things must change, for the better.
It seems that you can't drink alot???? I'm talking of WATER NOT ALCOHOL !!!! I gave up fizzy drinks years ago after we bought a fridge with a water filter in it, & now drink more water & green tea, but as I work in a call centre I do drink a lot..... so would find if difficult ... Have to eat more gum !!!
You are all very supportive on this forum, & such an Inspiration to all. I just can't wait to see my Surgeon on the 17th of this month, 13 days to go..( just to have my band removed) As everyone has experienced, I can't wait to start losing good kilos. My friend Rosa in NZ has been on Opti for the last few days & has nearly lost 5k, she is doing really well & has her Sleeve done on 5th November.. She has had computer problems over the last couple of weeks, but she will join this forum in the next few days.
Thankyou all for your help & patience..... Vicki :)))

| OSMOLAX... get some!!!
Its the same stuff American sleevers take but its called miralax over there.
You can take it daily in your cup of tea or any beverage that is not fizzy and its non addictive, wont slow the bowel and has not taste or grittiness.
It simply puts liquid into the feacal matter to soften it for easy evacuation.
you will be able to cut it down and take it only when you need it but my doc told me its safe to take everyday for the rest of your life.
Identical to movicol but with no flavour or electrolites so you cant tell its in your beverage.
Awesom stuff...no cramping or discomfort either. If you are really bunged up it might take a couple of days to work but it will get it moving. Till you can get all your fibres going and get it to move that way this stuff is great.

| Hey Vicky
There are not many foods that I cannot eat - some are greasy/fried foods/takeaway. Do not miss that type of food :)
I eat bread and toast and find that garlic bread sits really well.
I ate some BBQ chicken from takeaway recently and I ended up in the ED with severe gastric pain. It could have been a coincidence (the chicken was the last food I ate) but I will not eat it again for a while :)
Sorbet I can eats bowls full ... mmmmmmmm
I am a bit partial to the odd bit of choccie, but I would not eat a whole block. I eat very similar to my old diet, minus the takeaway, minus the alcohol (by choice), minus the fizzy drinks and of course I only eat size wise what a toddler would eat... :)
You have a 'normal' diet to look forward to, just in miniature amounts.
ps - toast with vegemite is a fav for me. :)

| Hi Gail & Findingmeagain
Gail congrats on your sleeve, can't wait to get mine done, possibly Jan 2013. Apt with my band surgeon on the 17th of this month, then I will have to have the band removed & then another 3 month wait for the sleeve.
But there is a light shining brightly at the end of the end of the tunnel. Vicki :)))
Findingmeagain, I only eat multi grain bread, have always managed to eat bread toasted even with the band in...so hopefully I will still be able to with the sleeve. I read in a few other posts that some do have some issus with diffferent foods & can no longer eat them, I hope I can still eat my toast.. Thanks again, Vicki :)))

| I have found that by having a slice of Bürgen Soy-Lin bread for breakfast is keeping me regular. I was having problems before I started eating it. | |

| Hi Vicki, I've only had my sleeve for 3 weeks, but I was expecing to get constipated, given the high protein diet in the fluid and puree phases. I have surprised myself, maybe because I've been adding the Benefibre to my coffee in the morning, but so far so good. Time will tell if it continues. Early days yet for me.

| Hi Stace, thank you for your reply. I had the fluid removed from my band just over a week ago, the first thing I had was salad. So I will be more than happy to eat less, but it will be wonderful to eat foods that just weren't possible with the band. Constipation was hidious at times, would be so bad I'd have to get the senacot out. I was hoping that with a more varied diet it wouldn't be so bad, but I must admit I do like prunes.
In the depression years they called them Poormans Chocolates!! Vicki:)))

| I sometimes feel a little 'clogged up', but not very often. My bowels respond very well to a prune or 2 with my breakfast. I do eat a fairly balanced diet, small amounts of everything - I mean fruit, veg, carbs, protein. Not so much fried food, chocolate or sweets. I also rarely drink alcohol, but I doubt that would really make any difference anyway.
Others are not so lucky and suffer badly. I guess I am one of the lucky ones.

| I wondered if anyone that has been sleeved suffers from constipation, seeing as you don't eat that much ??? While being banded I often suffered with constipation from not eating well.
I'm hoping that due to being able to eat most foods with the sleeve, I won't be aflicked with constipation again !!!
Thank you all for you help & support.... Vicki :)))
