| Hi again Leanne, I have my first appointment with the surgeon this Friday and if he says no (this is really for my commitment benefit) I will keep looking till I find a DR that will.
re: plastic - yes Im there too. Im trying not to think of what it will look like and Ill deal with that then. Bust reduction is not something I will need but we might need surgery to find them lol. I do think that worrying about the look has weirdly been a justification for me to not lose weight before. Oh who knows, reality is if I lost weight on a day that ends in y I would eventually put it back on again.
Cant help with the PI question sorry, I already had it having the children and have just kept it.
I am ready now too. M | |

| So Mojo have you had sleeve done? Well I have made my mind up and yes I am going to have it done. My first app is next week. If I am totally honest with myself I know that I will never loose the weight on my own, so yep I need to do something drastic. Now that I have made my mind up I just want it to hurry up and get it done.
Another thing I wanted to ask, is I am prety sure I would like to have a tummy tuck when I loose my weight, I already have a huge apron of fat and skin (from having kiddies) once I loose weight it will be so much worse. I dont have private health, would it be worth joining one. Which one??? Also I would LOVE to have breast reduction/lift.

| Hi Leanne, Im a newbie too. I am 167cms, and as of today 95kg. Because Im tall (ish) my BMI is reasonably low BUT Im 46, carry all my weight on my tummy, I have no boobs or bum. Im on meds for high blood pressure, diabetes and have sleep apnoea. I have always struggled with my weight but was slim in my twenties by eating properly, exercising like a maniac and smoking like a train to stop feeling hungry. I cant go there again!
I have come to realise that I have been saying "Im not that bad when the reality is, this weight is affecting my health. I have young children who need a healthy mum so yes, I am about your size and for me, its time to ask for help.
One of the diary's, and Im sorry I dont know which one, wrote this and it stuck with me in my decision making.
If someone showed you a future you, healthy, slim, energetic and then showed you another version, unhealthy possibly 10 or 15 kg heavier and all the health risks associated with that weight (which I have now) and then they said that all you had to do to ensure you chose the healthier version is to have the surgery and go through a few tough months, would you do it.
Good luck with your decision, you have to be sure.

| Hi Leanne
Well I am approx same height as you. I have been overweight for approx 30 years. I started with the Lap band 2009 and lost 23 kgs, but would never recomment the band to anyone. Band was taken out November last year.
March 2012 was the best year of my life between the band and the sleeve I have lost 35.5 kgs. Yes it can be done. The sleeve allows you to eat only small portions of food, and takes away the feeling to over indulge, and I am never hungry...........
I love my sleeve and would recommend it to anyone. I have gone from a size 22 to 14.

| Hi leeanemc
I can really relate, because I was not so far off your weight (104kg) and only just fitted the criteria to be sleeved. BUT I had spent 20 years being overweight and was throughly sick of it! I've always been an active, energetic person yet I could never keep any weight off (except I'd been 116kg and managed to get to the 100 - 105 range and stay there).
Anyway.... we paid for my surgery also (in NZ - no PHI). My hubby was very supportive - we're not rich by any means, so it was a big decision, but one that I have never regretted. I lost the weight exactly as my surgeon said I would, and he expected good results because of my starting weight. I'm now a size 10, healthy BMI and extremely happy. I'm beginning to realise that I have to watch what I eat now but it is so much easier to control. The fact that we paid for it makes me take it so seriously, I couldn't bare to put any weight back on after spending all that money!
Good luck with your decision,

| Hi leeanemc I was sleeved 9 months ago and have lost 43kgs. I lost 14kg before starting optimist pro-op. By the sleeve date I had lost 21kg and only needed to lose another 10kg to reach my original goal. I actually lost 22kg post op to now be below goal.
Losing weight has never been a problem, I just couldn't keep it off. The sleeve has made it possible for me to maintain this weight for months with little effort. Food is no longer my main focus and obsession, cravings are not a problem.
Having a smaller amount of weight to lose still makes the sleeve a great tool as it is the maintenance (for life) which is so difficult.
Keep researching about the sleeve, it is a big decision and huge commitment and can't be undone. I just know it has been the right decision for me to keep the weight off.
Good luck with your decision. Jessied

| Hi leannemc, The last time I can remember being around your weight was in 1977, and every new diet I tried I regained the weight that I had lost and added extra kgs for the company! I finally reached 174kg with my self esteem lying dead under a rock when I decided on the surgery. I am three weeks post surgery and although most of my wieght loss to date was from the Opti phase pre-op I am extremely pleased with the outcome. Have all your questions ready for your appointment with the surgeon. But most importantly remember that the sleeve is only a tool that still needs to be used wisely, by making healthy choices and excercising. Cheers, Janet | |

| Hi leannemc
It is a tough decision as it can not be undone but I also tried the Lapband with major issues and after that thought no more but 3 years on I am 6 days post op. There seem to be a lot of people around your weight and size on here who it has been extremely successful and as Lillie said it won't fix everything you still need to exercise and eat right. It's just another great tool that hopefully stops the yo yo diet. Dr Hopkins is lovely. Saw him when have trouble with my band. Just stick to what u want done as he seems to favour the full gastric bypass at present.
Good luck with your decision

| Hi leannemc,
Whether surgery is something you can do is really up to you, if you feel ready for it. You have to be comfortable with the idea.
I'm pretty similar to you in terms of height and I am a bit heavier. I was 87 when I first heard of it and was doing cohens, which is a very strict diet program, and I had thought that I didn't need to take the "easy way out", I could preserve with the program. My weight stalled and when I got fed up with the program, my weight ballooned back with interest. When I was 110, I realized I needed to do this. My regret is deciding not to do this earlier when I was younger and at a lower weight.
The myth associated with surgery is that you don't have to work hard or that it's the easy way out. The sleeve is just a tool, you still have to diet and exercise. The sleeve enables your results to be more permanent and get off the yo-yo dieting track. Most people who are on the sleeve begin to exercise more and make healthier choices out of their own free will because they feel so good.
I can definitely tell you this place helped me make the decision, not just the results but all the information given, I feel fully prepared. I think you should check out the galleries and diaries, it will help you too.

| Hi as my title says, I am trying to decide if I should have sleeve done or not.
I have approx 35kgs to loose, I am 156cm weight is around 95kg. I have a few friends that have had surgery latley and they are all having great weightloss.
I have yoyo dieted forever, never loosing anymore than 10kgs on any diet. I am at my highest weight so far, I feel yuk no confidence.
The struggle I am having trying to decide if I shuld have surgery is do I really need it? Do people with this amount of weight really need surgery or should I just get off my lazy bum and keep trying to diet. My gp has given me a referral to see Dr George Hopkins in brissy, I just dont know if I am big enough to warrant spending all that money. I have no health insurance so I will be using my super to pay for it.
So is there other people out ther with same amount to loose that opted to have surgery?
Thanks | |
